What's the point of little old ladies refusing to give up their seats on a bus?
The only way change is ever made is for radical elements to push for it. The mainstream will never push for change. Why should they? They are in the mainstream, which means that they have most of what they want. The goal is to bring as many as possible into the mainstream.
Does this make radicals always right? Certainly not. But, it is always the radical elements in society which are the source of change. If the radicals can convince enough people in the mainstream of their ideas, then they are brought into the mainstream of politics and absorbed. And that is always the goal.
