Okay, if you haven't figured out by now from the AV, I'm a huge Terry Pratchett fan. I love the Discworld series. I just finished off Night Watch and it was really good. Any of the ones with Vimes makes for a good read.
Anyone else out there a Pratchett fan? What's your fave? And, just for kicks, what actors would you have play the characters in Discworld? For me it would be:
Sam Vimes: Clint Eastwood (Yeah like that was difficult) Granny Weatherwax - Dame Maggie Smith Vetrinari - Christopher Walken Carrot - That guy from A Knights Tale (Don't know his name) Rincewind - Now this is a toughy. I really don't know.
Howzabout youse?

Has to be Hogfather. It has Death and the Wizrads and Susan, Assassins and Oh Gods. What more could you ask for?

I've only read Feet of Clay and one other, but I forget. I really liked Feet of Clay though...
I think it would be entertaining to see the Nac Mac Feagle in movies (I think I spelt that horribly wrong...)

How does one pick a favourite Terry Pratchett?!?
I prefer the ones featuring Granny and if Nanny and Magrat are thrown in, so much the better. I own nearly every Discworld book.
Favourites: Equal Rites, Mort, Sorcery, Wyrd Sisters, Witches Abroad, Lords and Ladies, Hogfather, Soul Music, Carpe Jugulum, Small Gods, Thief of Time... See what I mean!?

Oh geez...that's like picking a favorite dessert. I've loved them all so far. I liked Small Gods as the best stand alone novel, and for "series" stuff enjoyed the Witch, Wizard, and Watch (three W's?) books. As an engineer I find the Wizard stuff hilarious, particularly Ponder and the computer Hex. And who can forget Cohen the Barbarian and his Silver Hoarde? Pratchet's a genius, no two ways about it. He has the talent to become a real hoity-toity intelectual poet-lauriate type, but is down-to-earth enough to write for mass appeal. He's got some really great philosophy hiden in there. And, just for kicks, what actors would you have play the characters in Discworld? For me it would be: Sam Vimes: Clint Eastwood (Yeah like that was difficult) Yea, really hard one there. Or Billy Bob Thornton as a suitable sub.Granny Weatherwax - Dame Maggie Smith Yes! Dingdingding!! We have a winner!Vetrinari - Christopher Walken I can see that, though I've always seen Vetinari as a little more subdued than your typical Walken character. How about Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber from Die Hard and Professor Snape from Harry Potter)?Carrot - That guy from A Knights Tale (Don't know his name) Oh lords no. That guy's a tool (I'm assuming you mean the lead character). Carrot has modesty and class...that guy doesn't. Can't think of anyone, though...Rincewind - Now this is a toughy. I really don't know. Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler, Boris from Goldeneye). Jerry Lundegaard (fargo) perhaps?

So far I've read The Color of Magic, Guards! Guards!, and Feet of Clay. Of them my favorite is Guards! Guards!
I'm around a quarter to a third of the way into Men at Arms. I have a fealing that when I finish it I'll have a new favorite.

As for actors: I'll go along with Clint Eastwood for Vimes, somebody of the older but still tough kind is a must. I'd also consider Harrison Ford or Sean Connery.
For Vetinari, you need a classy villain actor, how about Gary Oldman?
I'm not aware of any actor qualified to be Carrot. He'd need to be built like The Rock or Stone Cold Steve Austin or at least Vin Diesel, but be able to act and have a voice I could stand to listen to for 2+ hours, like Johny Depp.
I haven't really read the witch books, but I listened to the short story from the Legends anthology on audio tape and think Dame Maggie Smith would be perfect.
Now, the Librarian is the toughest of all. I would have to go with the orangutan from George of the Jungle.
I think the guy who was the lead Uruk in the LotR movies would make an acceptable Detritus.

Favorite Pratchett? It's always the last one I've read (now: Feet of Clay).
Steve Buscemi should be Nobby Nobbs in "Discworld the Movie" Christopher Walken's a good call for Vetinari
Bette Midler as Nanny Ogg. scratch that. Definately Joan Cusack (hmmh. she looks more like a magrat) Tim Roth as Rincewind the Wizard Gov. Scwartzenegger as Sgt. Detritus Meat Loaf as Foul Ole Ron James Earl Jones as The voice of DEATH. Isabella Rossellini as Mrs. Palm Harry Enfield as Sgt. Colon or CMOT Dibbler This just in: Natasha Henstridge as Angua.
We still need a tall, pretty boy for Carrot . Add a couple witches and we're done.

Jack Nicholson as Cohen the Barbarian? Maybe Sean Connery if he could look rough enough. That dude who played Legolas in LOTR for Carrot.
What about De Word and the Times crew?

J That dude who played Legolas in LOTR for Carrot. Orlando Bloom? I don't see it. Carrot's gotta be rather buff as well as cute. Like I said, someone built like Ahnold, but with actual acting ability.

Anything with the city watch or Rincewind is always fun. For saying that the entire series is extremely funny and making me pick a favorite is cruel and unusual Best title goes to Intresting Times in my book. Poor old Rincewind's worst nightmere. Challenger

Best book I've ever read!!! Nomination goes to...
"Good Omens" By Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett!!
*audience cheers*
Description:
We hear the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner. Unfortunately, Sister Mary Loquacious of the Chattering Order has misplaced the Antichrist. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse ride motorcycles. And the representatives from Heaven and Hell have decided they actually like the human race...
If you haven't read it, I definitely recommend it. Very funny yet dramatic.
