It's called Operation Phoenix. They are applying the old names to brand new designs that keep up with the latest tech advancements. The Technical Readout that they appear in is already out.

Cool. Those were always the best mechs anyway. I loved the Warhammer. Marauders were fine if you dropped the AC 5 and rammed lots of heat sinks into it. Then you could really open a can o whopass on someone.

The designs are around the same type of mechs but different physical look, at least from that which I've seen. I still have some of the older documents that had them, but I suppose I technically can't use them. The Luthein scenario pack, for one, had the Warhammer IIC and Marauder. The Warhammer was pretty wimpy compared to the Loki or Thor anyways.

The look of the "resurrected" designs is sort of hit or miss. Some, like the new Longbow, look really nice. Others look really clunky, like the new Goliath.

I have to admit, I never played with the clan tech. Just too nasty for me. I liked the original stuff that I had. I got out of BattleTech about the time that all the Clan stuff started to come.

It wasn't that bad. At first it was definetly unbalanced but FASA did a good job of fixing most of the imbalances in the second Clan Technical Handbook.
On the flip-side, the clans had a very interesting society and culture.

Many old Mechs have been brought back yes. One of the best things is that in the back of the new TRO, they have pics for all the configurations.

I have to admit, I never played with the clan tech. Just too nasty for me. I liked the original stuff that I had. I got out of BattleTech about the time that all the Clan stuff started to come. Well, that was the idea. It was supposed to be nastier than the Inner Sphere stuff. Even with all of that superior tech, they weren't unstoppable. My players quickly learned how to eliminate the technological advantage by using tactics that were unknown to Clan military doctrine such as close-range combat (the Clans liked to fight at long range), equipping melee weapons (see close-range combat), exploiting the lack of jump jets on most Clan 'Mechs, combined arms tactics, and so on. Now there is more of a technological parity, though the Clans still have a lead in most areas.
