A temporary camp high in the Lortmil Mountains bristled with activity. It was around the middle of the night, but despite everybody?s tiredness few could find enough nerve to sleep, knowing that the next day is going to be their last one.

Once one of the best military units in the Faerie Kingdom of Celene, Serethorn Family Guard now was merely a shadow of its former greatness. Only a third of their number survived, and about half of them still bore the wounds from the past battles.

And worst of all, the very spirit of Serethorn Family Guard was broken. In the light of the full moon, everybody could see a half-tower half-fortress looming ahead and above them, and everybody knew that they couldn’t possibly storm it; not with their number, injuries, and total lack of war machines. Few doubted the insanity of their lord by now, yet they still followed him on this suicide mission, partially because of their sense of duty to their lord and partially because the way back to Celene was closed to them now; after they choose to obey their lord rather then a royal order, everybody in here was declared guilty of High Treason to the Faerie Kingdom of Celene…

A group of four stood somewhat away from the main camp, studying the situation gloomy…

A small-framed gray elven woman – Sergeant Bariel was the first to break the silence.

She just recently returned from the failed negotiations with dwarves of Lortmil Mountains, still bearing the scars from their ‘refusal’.

He also wasn’t without fresh injuries, his left arm was still bandaged and it was likely that he won’t be able to use it to full extent in the coming battle. This did nothing to diminish his confidence in himself and his lord, though.

”So far, we fought off anything the bastard threw at us, remember?” Tingor continued confidently. ”And besides, Lord Edhelorn has a plan of some kind. I am sure all is going to be just fine!”

Among these four, only Rill and the fourth person heard this ‘plan’, and to both of them it sounded even more insane then the rest of this campaign… To sneak past fighting army alone, and then fight the powerful wizard and only gods know how many bodyguards… Even assuming that the part of luring the enemy army outside would work, there was almost no chance for such a plan to succeed…

Ariel, a Princess of the Faerie Kingdom of Celene, sighed. Just a short while ago she once again promised Lord Edhelorn a royal pardon if to he return back to Celene to regroup his forces and use them to protect his kingdom rather then waste them in a hopeless assault. He refused. Now she had time until sunrise to leave… Or he threaten to imprison her or even have her killed, claiming that he don’t need a potential enemy in his camp at the time of battle. It hurt, but so must have the word that his actions are considered a High Treason by Her Fey Majesty that Ariel has brought to him.

”Nobody else would listen, I am fairly sure of that… Nobody but you. I am leaving, right now… And I ask you to come with me. This battle is lost, but unless I mistaken, this enemy won’t stop now. The Faerie Kingdom of Celene needs you, you who have seen and fought these enemy’s dark minons, and know what they are capable of. There is no way of killing this enemy right here and now, but we will find a way to kill him someday… Either that, or I fear the Faerie Kingdom of Celene will fall.”
