The movie coming out made me think. I mean I know the one in the wrong is all in the eye of the beholder, but who was really wrong? I don't know because everytime I think of a point I think of a counter point for the opposing side.

Paris of Troy kidnapped Helen, who was married to Agamemnon. Now whether Paris and Helen were truly in love or not, no one really knows, but Paris sacrificed his entire country (Troy) over one woman.
Since Paris was the prince of Troy......the Trojans were in the wrong for: #1 - taking what was not their's to take, #2 - not returning what was stolen, #3 - sacrificing the lives of many for the desire of one.

I'd have to agree with LWW on this one. The Trojans (or, Paris in particular) were just plain dumb.

Actualy, it was Discord's fault. She's the one who tossed the apple infront of Atheana, Aphrodite, and Hera that said "For the most beutiful". If it hadn't been for her they woulden't have gone to Paris for an answer and the war would never have happened.

ok I'm going to be a bit weird here and say it was really no ones fault You cant blame helen for being pretty you can't blame paris for falling in love with her and you can blame henlens hubby for trying to get her back but if you must blame some one then blame what beatuy is to everyone then and now for not letting any one see their onw ture inner and outer beatuy and thats my very weird opion.

Actualy, it was Discord's fault. ...so the root cause of war is discord. Makes sense.

Oh, the irony...
I'd agree that neither side was to blame, insofar that both sides were in the right. Wars generally start that way.

When I said it was Discord's fault, I was refering to an individual, not an idea. Acording to legend, Discord was mifed that she wasn't invited to the little lunchen the other three were having and decided to cause a bit of trouble.

Yea, I know. The gods, in essence, started the war, but this is also indicative of much of Greek literature. They just love that deus ex machina.

Was her name (in Greek) actually Discord? I would've supposed that 'Discord' is a translation...

I assumed that was her actual greek name, but I did a quick Google on "greek discord" and found many references to Eris, Goddess of Discord, but no mentions of a goddess actually named "Discord." Can anyone with actual knowledge on the subject confirm?

That would've been really cool to have a goddess actually named Discord, though.
