Kenji waited for Eri to make her choice and go out, before picking up the remaining two scrolls. Kenji felt easier with Eri being away; for even though Kenji found Eri's slender but althletic figure very attractive, he felt very uncomfortable in her presence.
"I guess, I insulted her." thought Kenji sadly "I didn't meant to, but... I am not good in all these courtly talks and all... Well, I'll better concentrate on my training, that's what I am supposed to do after all."
Since Mourne was nowhere to be seen, Kenji simply went outside as well. He went to the lake and waterfall, where he sat down under one of the trees, close to the lakeshore. While this place wasn't especially quiet, it reminded Kenji of a small monastry in the mountains where he grown up, and the rythmic sound of falling water helped him to concentrate on his studies better then any silence. There Kenji finally opened the scrolls he was carrying in his hand until then, and started to read them, trying to learn jutsus written upon them.

Mourne stood on the side of a tree trunk, watching his students with interest for almost two hours. After a bit he blinked, silently he drew out a small needle and began walking to the top of the tree. Once he reached the top he looked about and spotted what he was looking for in the distance... smiling he dropped to the lowest branch. " The first test will now begin..."

Eri stopped her reading and turned to face Mourne, still sitting respectfully

Mourne dropped to the ground and walked toward the pavilion, motioning for Eri and Kenji to come with him. He sat quietly on the edge of the porch and waited for you both. As you aproach Mourne begins speaking, "It's time you two put those skills to use, as I speak Ichina and her gennin students close in on us. There has been bad blood between us since I was force to kill her brother. Now she will come after me and use her students to take care of you... You both should get into gear and find a serviceable ambush spot. I'll whistle when you should attack, now go inside and change." Sighing he stood up and gave you both a pat on the shoulder as he ushered you inside. "Please be swift..." Quietly Mourne stepped outside and left you both inside.

Eri bows respectfully and withdraws to her quarters, hiding a kyogetsu-shogi and a ninja-to in her kimono, and braiding a few dart shuriken into her hair.

Mourne had been so absorbed in his thoughts he hadn't noticed kenji hadn't seen his beckons, he ran towards the boy. Jumping into the air he landed beside the boy, "Kenji, go inside the house and get prepared with Eri. Then find an ambush point, we about to be attacked..." Giving the boy a pat on the back in encouragement, Mourne raised a hand with two fingers straight up and focused. Before Kenji could respond he was running across the water, heading towards the dead part of the forest across the small lake.
~I can handle Ichina, but can they handle Kiyagasu and Mirosai? Let's hope they show the aptitude for excellence I know they possess....~

Eri quickly folds her kimono halfway up into itself and fastens on a fighting hakama. She puts on a pair of stout black leather tabi and a pair of hard wooden zori to match. Leaving the building, she hides behind a tree, concentrating her mind and finding her center

Intending to follow his instructions to the letter, Kenji ran toward the building with all the speed he could muster. Once inside, however, Kenji was somewhat surprised to see no signs of Eri in there.

”She must have already found a suitable ambush point for herself.” thought Kenji ”Well, I suppose, that this is my turn to do the same.”

Kenji put his traveler’s sack near the table to relieve himself from the extra weight, but didn’t drawn his weapons, knowing that it would take him no longer then a second to do so, and while his weapons remained hidden, Kenji had at least a small chance of surprising his possible opponents.

”I wonder, if this is merely a test, or if this is something far more serious.” thought Kenji ”Well, either way I am going to try my best. After all, this is what is expected from me.”

After such thinking, Kenji looked around the building, trying to find a good hiding spot, even though he knew little about ambushes…

As the students hid for their ambush, Mourne stood atop a stone pier about a mile from the waterfall. The natural piers seemed to jut in random directions, but to Mourne they looked like a black lotus... somehow fitting. A smile seemed to appear behind his mask, "Well Ichina... you can come out..."
A figure seemed to melt from the shadows behind him, her blond hair blowing in the wind. She wore clothes similiar to Mournes, but more dark and morbid in style and functionality. She looked at him with her startling crystal blue eye and smirked, "So the great Mourne, called the Ryukiri, allows himself to be trapped..."
Mourne shruged and sighed, "A name only... just remember a trap is only such if one cannot escape..."
Ichina's smirk vanished as she extended claws from over her wrists, "We shall see great fool..."
They both suddenly disappeared and a scream echoed on the wind. Meanwhile a pair of dark shapes came ever closer to the Genin's shelter, their steps echoing quietly through the silent forest...
