The centaur enters the woods to the north of town, carefully watching his steps in the darkness. The sound of the now gentle rain on the leaves is soothing to his wild soul. He finds a nicely sheltered spot some 500 yards in from town and gets himself a good night's sleep before beginning the task of scouting the next morning.

While resting for the night, Hannibal plans for the next day. He will head out at first light, looking for anything out of the ordinary. His plan is to head some ten miles to the north to get the lay of the land before returning to the town, hopefully with useful information. Grinning to himself in the darkness, he looks forward to a hard days run tomorrow. Twenty miles should be enough to get the blood pumping.

Please note that the forest is fairly dense here and the maximum travel distance will be 10 miles (2 hexes on the map) even for a centaur.
The rain is finally starting to let up as you find a comfy spot to spend the night. From deep within the forest you can hear the calls of the night creatures as they emerge from their shelters. The howls of wolves and the whoing of owls echo through the trees. The night passes uneventfully for you and you wake the next morning to a cool, damp, morning.

Knowing that he has a fair distance to cover, Hannibal heads out after a quick breakfast. He makes his way as best he can through the dense forest, cursing occasionally at the branches snagging in his hair.
[ooc - I am heading NNE for three days (ie along the edge of the hex then into the hex then along the edge) which should bring me to the river just south of the mountains.]

Day 1 places you here. The day passes with little difficulty and the travel isn't quite so harsh as you'd thought it might be. You set up camp near 15 miles from the town after a full day's travel. As you start yer fire to warm the chill night air, you hear a noise in the bushes to the west. Two figures approach your campsite, covered in light scratches from wandering throught the brush and close in trees. Nothing serious though. They introduce themselves friendly enough as Elk and Rayn, wandering traveler's that have managed to lose themselves in this part of the forest.

Greetings travelers. I am called Hannibal by your kind. I too am travelling through this forest. Come, share the fire and get warm. It is too bitter a night to not warm up. I was just about to have some dinner. Perhaps you would like to join me?

Spotting a fire in the distance, Rayn motions Elk to follow her, as she cautiously moves closer to see who occupies the clearing. Seeing only one occupant within the camp, she quietly sighs in relief, ever fearful of running into a group of bandits or other such ruffians. With almost noiseless steps she emerges from the dense surrounding forest, calling out to the centaur as she moves towards the fire, stopping just short of the camp, her form barely visible from outside the glow of the firelight.
My name is Rayn, and this is Elk, we mean you no harm. I and my traveling companion became lost in the forest several days ago, and have as of yet to find our way out of it, and to the nearest town. Thank you so much for allowing us to share your fire and food this evening.
A slightly disheveled elven woman, with coal black hair and bright blues eyes, wrapped tightly in a cloak moves into the firelight, to warm herself by the fire, a friendly smile upon her face.

Well met Mistress Rayn and Master Elk. Perhaps I can be of some service. You are about a days march north of the town of Gydnia. I just left there yesterday morning.
Perhaps you could help me too. I am searching for a small lake or pool that is said to be located near here. It is called Orb Lake. Maybe you have heard of it?

I am sorry Hannibal, but I have no knowledge of the body of water which you speak of. Although, I will admit I'm not very familiar with this area, hence why I became lost as I did. I'm fearful of becoming lost once again in these woods, even knowing what direction to head in, due to the fact that the vegetation is so dense, therefore making travel in a straight path next to impossible. Might I trouble you to show us to the town, so as to avoid anymore misadventures? If you were to do so we would be very grateful.

Maybe you are right. I could wander out here for years and not find this lake. Coming out here was ill advised at best. Let us sleep for the night and head back to the town in the morning.
Hopefully my compatriots have learned something.

As the sun begins to peek over the horizon, Rayn, waking well rested for the first time in several nights, un-wraps her cloak from around herself and stretches. Taking her hands she runs her fingers through her hair trying to return it to some state of normalcy, then rubbing her hands across her face, rises, and searches out some privacy.
Returning back to the camp, she stirs the remaining few embers from the fire, adds a few pieces of wood, and goes about heating what was left of the supper the night before, to break their fast, before heading towards the town.
Smiling towards the others as they begin to finally stir, the smell of wood smoke and leftovers wafting in the air, Rayn finishes reheating the food. Always a very early riser it didn’t surprise her in the least to be the first up and about. Coming from the life she had it became an early necessity, to be up and gone with the dawn. Offering the meager breakfast to the other two, she rises once again and goes in search of some moss she had seen earlier the evening before, wishing to gather some of it for her medicinal uses.

Mmm, that smells good neighbour. I'm so hungry I could eat a human. Heh. My little joke. I'd never eat human again, too fatty.
Hannibal begins tearing chunks of rabbit off the skewer and bolting it down. Opening a skin at his side, he takes a large swig before offering it to his fellow campers.
Here, human. This will help take the chill out of the morning. Nothing like a good stiff belt first thing in the morning.

Returning from gathering the moss, and some other medicinal herbs she found along the way, Rayn hears Hannibal's comment, and chokes back her laughter at the look of horror on Elk's face. She walks the rest of the way into camp as Hannibal offers his libation to them. Rayn thanks him and takes a long draw, catching her breath sharply, her eyes watering profusely, she croaks out
What is that stuff?

As he looks at Rayn, he sighs in relieve under his breath, glad he didn't accept it. Taking a glance about he checked on things in the surrounding area, considering he had nothing else to do that would be of use to the others...not like it would be praised if he did have something to do.
Rayn, never eat before you know what something is...
