Gods! I feel so alone. *sniffles* Well, it's no use being in denial anymore.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Isshia and I am an electronic-media-oholic.
I've got nearly everything on disk nowadays and use the computer to generate my maps (though I sometimes do annotate them by hand) and print and file and update both my npc sheets and my players PC record sheets. All of the books I use (which is damned near everyone ever written by TSR staffers for AD&D and alot of Netbooks as well) I have either scanned in myself or bought as electronic media files or glommed free (in the case of netbooks) off of the web at one point or another. My laptop eqautes to the multiple boxes of books I used to carry to every game that I didn't host in my home. I've got nearly 4 gigabytes of gaming stuff stored in a trio of computers and on a round dozen compact disks.
Hell, most of my actual books are in an air conditioned storage unit 5,000+ miles away from my present hearth and home.
Oh Gods! It's true! I am an electronic-media junkie! Ohhh, whoa is me! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! I may be the first body builder/computer nerd in history. *sniffle*

Add to that, the fact that I don't even play in person any more but only game over OpenRPG, and I'm in pretty much the same boat as Draxy here. ;D

It's actually a shame to see that this is the way modern RPG are being played. I can understand not being able to find gamers playing a game in your area, but this is become more and more commonplace every day.
Part of the magic that is the Good 'ol fashion crap down in front of other players RPG is the Comraderie (sometimes!), the social gathering, and the fact that you are NOT cooped up in some dark room being "subversive."
It is truesly as shame that books and people are becoming "old news."

Sure, I'd like that too, but, hey, I'm the only English speaker in the town I live in. Little tricky to find gamers. ;D

Hi Agamoto,
It would take a bit of doing, since my books are in a storage facility in Norhtport, Florida and my friends who still live in the area live an hour plus drive away in North Sarasota, but technicaly, yeah, I've got access to them. I've got roughly nine sealed footlockers full of everything from D&D to Chaosium to Paladium to you name. By my best estimates, that is about six to eight grand worth of books at their cover values, some, like the AD&D 2nd edition PHB, in multiples with one of those still in the shrink wrap I put it in after I bought them.
As to selling them: Sorry, but my son, after he gets out of the dorm at college and has room for them, has dibs on them.

i hate to be mean but it is a lot easyer to teach gaming newbies the d20 system and then they have a grasp on some of the other games that are played by my gaming groups. I don't know what all of you guys play but a round here it a lot of d20 games, so it just makes my job a lot easyer to teach one system instead of four or five diffrent systems. By the way does any one here play Amber? ( sorry i know thats not the topic just a little coureous.)

I think the biggest problem, which has been mentioned already but should be emphasized, is the fact that it is almost impossible to find a lot of the 1 and 2E stuff. Used books stores, which are hit and miss, and half.com, which is just as hit and miss.
the tabletop I am a PC in still plays 2E and 1E; I run a 3E game. I don't think it's the matter of superiority or inferiority of one system over another as much as it is clarifications, player and dm skill levels and the energy of the group.
for example, in 1 or 2E, you had to get creative when it came to, say, leaping over a table to attack you opponent. How to decide if the jump is good; does the character lose his balance, and how do you determine that? Does he land ok? And can he attack when he lands, etc. In 3E, it's probably 2 skills.
On the other hand, 3E gets a bit cumbersome with all the die rolling and bonuses; I freely admit that. But good players can work around it, just as good DMs can work around the limitations of 1 and 2E.
Each has it's pros and cons; personally, I think it would be interesting if the 1 and 2 E stuff were still on the market, if only to see how well it would do against 3E...

Funny thing is that I have never had an issue at getting 1E stuff. EBay you can pick it up cheap cheap. I just got the following. DMG PHB MM1, MM2 FF All for 19.45 a solid deal. And around here int he stores and such there seems to be a steady supply for all....... however since 3E and 3.5 are the new flavours they of course will be alot more available.... As far as rules like ya mentioned, yes 1E does force the DM to make deisions and adapt his game more, but at least with me thats what I found appealing. But it all falls as you have said to personal opinion. I know 2 close friends that hate 1E and 2E but love 3E everyone and every group to there own devices.....
