Would you say that an Anti-Paladin should be Chaotic Evil or Lawful Evil?

Good Question. This query has be talked about for amny years. To be honest, I think they both could be ANTI-PALADINS, but in different ways.
The LE ANTI-PALADIN, would be a Paladin, however dedicated and serving to the side of evil. They would still have to be strict and regimented in there ways, but soley dedicated to the exticntion of all Good.
The CE Paladin is possible too, however, a CE Paladin is direct and Polar oposite of the LG Paladin. This type of Paladin is dedicated in the extinction of all things good, however he goes about it in a non-regimented, (totally Chaotic) manner. Wholesale slaughter, and deeds of the foulest kind are a CE Paladins forte'.
I use these as 2 different styles of paladins. Both are used in my games.

Hi all,
Respectfully, I've got to disagree with Omote. Since a Paladin, as it is officially defined in 1st and 2nd edition AD&D, has a very specific type of personality and ethic, to be it's true anti-thesis is to be COMPLETELY antitheical to that personality/ethical type. It must be, to really be an ANTI-Paladin, the complete and total inverse of the Paladin.
That being said, it would have to be CE in it's alignment. It would have to be a being holding NO loyalties except those that benefit it personally and only to the extent that the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. It has to disadain life to every bit as great an extent as the Paladin is sworn to uphold and protect it. The rights and liberties of others can have no meaning for it except in such way as they benefit the Anti-Paladin at the moment.
Such a being would be almost as hard to protray correctly as a paladin would, of course.
In LE you still have the group as more important, over all, than the individual is, thus you still have a possible knightly code that can be upheld. The same disdain for life and liberties would be prevalent, but the code of conduct with the ethos itself would be every bit as rigid as that of LG. What you have there might be more properly called a Dark Knight, or Death Knight or some such, but it isn't the FULL antithesis of the Paladin, so Anti-Paladin just doesn't ring true.

LE makes more sense to me. Organized, very efficient cruelty, living only for his ideals of a perfect world, welcoming the growing pains of the next incarnation of his world ... that's where the real nasties live. Paladins obey the spirit of law, antipaladins use the Word of law for their own purposes, twisting the real purpose to justify damn nearly anything.
CE isn't a bad idea either, but I can't see a highly (destructively) impulsive man being a champion of anything - CE is the alignment for those that fear the bully (and want to be one), that is, low-intelligence naughtiness.
