Reviews about my new "little" book, called The Book of All Spells (Fast Foward Entertainment; 2003)
Contents: 17,000 spells, and 446 pages; sourced from 30 various works, many from Mongoose Pub. as well as all the basic spells from the 3.5 D&D Players Guide (Wizards). Cost: $34.99 US (~$52.00 Cnd). I got mine on a boxing day sale (38.00 Cnd)!!
Physical: Massive, huge, wieghs probably 4-5 pounds; about as thick as 2.25 Players guides stacked together. Not unlike my Art History University 101 Text book. Comes with hole punches.
Big problem: Floppy. This is a soft cover book (hard cover not availble and would cost well over a $100). But the Cover is So Soft, that is no better quality than a maganize cover and is constanly flapping around. GET A BINDER FOR THIS ONE (hole puches already included, but D-ring binder not good).
Insdie: Gigantic "short list" of spells that take up the first 45 pages. Super and nicely spaced Black and white Pictures (very few repeats); both of standard Fanasty Art as well is prints of real classical lithographs in places...pictures however donot always relate the the spells on the page (or any spell for that matter.)
Spells are layed out in normal fashion, and for the most easy to find and read. Clear pages make scanning or copying easy (for replacement and storage when that soft cover and spine starts to go.)
Good Impressions: Love it; A super resource for every spell caster imaginable; makes for some long night of reading..
Bad Impressions: Players well fight over it for the new spells from other books and could concievablly spend days looking for the right spell...especially those pesky Druids and Clerics...With out the need for a true set spell list Durids and Clerics could spend at least 75% of a gaming session (and 20% of a human life time) looking up spells to put into their minds...
And yet, still...someone well complain..."I don't have any good spells!!!"
Recommended: YEP (but only for true spell caster fanatics and DM's).
Special Note: Coming Soon...maybe not soon, but someday...the random spell table for The Book of All Spells...my mind is cramping thinking about it.
