Geoff says to Waldo: "Who died and left you in charge?"

Geoff, darting past Waldo, starts down the stairs. His feet, slipping on something in the utter darkness, cause him to loose his footing, and tumble down the steep, stone stairs.
His sword, knocked from his hand, can be heard bouncing down the stairs ahead of him.
Waldo, unable to see what happened to Geoff, slips as well, in the pitch blackness, plummeting as well.
As he falls, a loud click, and the grating sound of mechanisms can be heard from below.
Tumbling down the stairs he lands on top of Geoff at the bottom, both rolling into something at the base of the stairwell.
Waldo's war hammer is wrenched from his grip, upon impact, and skids across the cellar floor.
The men upstairs, can only hear muffled moans, curses and the scrape of steel on stone

"Ouch. You know Waldo, just because you're laying on top of me, doesn't mean I'm ready to go pick out curtains with you yet. Watch that first step up there - it's a big one. This would be much more pleasant if you were Moria." Geoff struggles to roll out from under Waldo and to procure a candle and lucifers (matches) from his backpack.

(hate it when i misunderstand the previous posts...woops ~Dw)
Dantri uses his darksight to look around the area, carefully pickin his way to the others. Holding his axe tightly, he glances around. "Hmmmm.....wonder what lies beyond this area....it's dark even to my eyes......"

Waldo jumps to his feet, pulling another warhammer out from his bandolier.
Geoff!he loudly whispers That could have very well been a trap or part of an ambush.
He stands up and dusts himself off, making sure that his hair is in place.
There, that's better. Now, Geoff, if you wish to take point, by all means, do so. However, don't go too far ahead and stay within my view. We'll live that way. he says.
He quickly cranes his head up and yells to the others
Beware! There is a pitfall of some sort here
That done, he goes into a low combat stance and begins to secure the area.

Geoff heeds Waldo's advice and looks around - hopefully being able to light the candle so he can actually see. And find his sword.

*The mechanism, triggered by Waldo activated a reversed, miniature portaculas, that rose out of the floor at an angle to impale anyone foolish enough to descend the stairs in darkness. Its metal and spiked ends rusted from age are angled upwards towards the stairs, however, Waldo and Geoff barely managed to roll under, and not impale themselves.*
*From within the darkness, a shimmery movement comes forward and a she-wolf with silver-blue fur becomes visible. She carries in her mouth a skeletal arm, the hand still grasping the owner's sword. She stops, drops it at her feet and addresses the party.* "Well, I see no fresh meat for me yet, the pickings are getting rather slim as you can well see. But then again, your adventure has only just began.
You are now standing at the entrance to an "L" shaped room, this being the bottom portion of the "L". Up top, you will see, if you ever decide to light any torches, a door on the far western wall. To your immediate right, towards the eastern wall, there is visible with lighting: 5 glass vials, a silver dagger, mace, a short sword with a ruby in the hilt" *She gazes at Waldo and Geoff with apparent annoyance.* "and someone's sword and another's warhammer just went skidding past me, and for some unknown reason, there are gold coins floating about the area."
"I'll await you further on, oh, good luck getting over the portaculas, the spikes can be nasty. I advise you not to let your skin get nicked in the slightest."*She then picked up the arm bone once again, and moved off into the deep shadows.*

Oh, PERFECT exclaimed Waldo, throwing his arms up in frustraction Maybe we can smash through this thing...
He taps the portcullis with the edge of his sword, and confident, swings the warhammer hard down onto one of the points on the business end of the obstacle, accompanying the strike with a loud warcry.

*What is it with the talking animals!?* Spark thinks to himself.
Don't touch the spikes, eh? he half mumbles to himself. This shouldn't be too hard. After slipping on his gloves and handing his lantern to Geoff... Spark starts going through his neclace, hair, and the inside of his cloak. Bat guano, Ox hair... here we go! Iron powder. After securing his staff to his belt, he gestures and voices his intent in the form of a reduce spell targeting the portcullis. He hobbles over to Dantri. Mind holding this for a moment? Thanks, keep a good grip. he says while handing Dantri one end of a silk rope. I have 50 feet worth, so this should be pleanty. We don't want to bust our equipment going through the thing, I don't know how to go below or around it... so up 'n' over we go! After limping to a good position and letting out enough rope, Spark coils his legs and springs over the half-sized portcullis. He then takes out his staff and limps back towards the group to secure the rope to an opening in the metal of the portcullis. C'mon guys, reduce doesn't last all day!

Excellent. Always liked having a good mage around, says Waldo, grabbing the rope and pulling himself up.

Someone grab some torches while you're over there. We may need them, if nothing more than to set off more of these traps.

Geoff follows Waldo over the grate, taking care to not scrape himself on the rusty iron by placing his blanket over the spikes first. Then he retrieves his blanket and proceeds to continue lighting a candle and placing it in his lantern. Finally, once the lantern is illuminated, he'll try to find his sword. "We were almost ready to be placed on a spit there, Waldo."

Spark limps towards the portcullis to fetch his rope.
I have a feeling furniture shouldn't be the highest item on our list of priorities; however, that little section of "treasure" over there seems pretty high up there. And if you don't mind, Geoff, I'll be taking back my lantern now that you have your own lit. After retreving his lantern, untying the rope, and replacing them in his cloak, he makes his way towards the lit area containing the vials and weapons, being sure to tap his staff across the floor ahead of him to avoid any traps.
How conveniant... I'll take the vials, you guys can get the weapons. Now, anyone got a clue about the "floating gold" the wolf was talking about? *Talking wolves... hmm? Mayhaps there's a druid 'round here somewhere...* He thinks to himself
