How many dwarves has Arragon met though? If he just met Gimli, no way. Also most of the third edition pictures have beardless lasses. Third Edition D&D changed a lot of things. I have some old basic D&D stuff that shows them with slight beards or something akin to a goatee. If anyone can grab a copy of the old The Shady Dragon Inn game supplement, there's a picture showing several male and female dwarves.

LOL Leave it to Lewd Beholder to ask all the important questions!
I think by D&D they have cheek hair, but I haven't done D&D for years. Palladium doesn't say that I recall. According to LotR they do have beards and are often mistaken for males. Ditto according to Terry Pratchet (Diskworld).
[question dodge tactic #3] I say it's up to the DM/GM... [/question dodge tactic #3]

In most sources I've read it mentions that female dwarves can grow beards. Depending on the setting, some of them prefer to shave, or limit the growth to a pair of sideburns.
The again, in Discworld RPG dwarves are all so heavily bearded that part of the dwarven courting ritual is months of trying to figure out what sex the other dwarf is. In Munchkin d20 female dwarves not only have huge beards, but also heavy backhair, giving them a +1 bonus to AC ;D

Indeed they are bearded lasses, Warhammer and LoTR say so, and so do most sources that mention dwarf females at all. Only third ed dnd, of all the sources I have seen, seems to defy the truth of the short hairy women.

In almsto everthing I have found the female dwarves have dwarves. The Darkwalker (my namesake) Trilogy makes direct note of that, and so does R.A. Salvatore's The Legacy, whre kind Bruenor makes the comment that there were near 3 dozen dwarf females in the battle that day, and Drizzit made teh comment that he couldn't tell.
So it all depends on wether you want to follow the written words or if you want to go with the socially acceptable image of a female with a hairless face.
[For the record, my dwarves will take a female with a beard over one without one nine times out of ten.]

If I had to pick my favorite though, I think it would be the Lineage 2 system. The females look more like human children or halfling women than ..errr... men... Sure, it may not be quite as true to the "flavor" of the race, but at least there isn't a shudder every time you see one.

Hi Lewd,
Probably several, as it mentions that he is the most travelled man of his time; easily believable when you consider that he was in his seventies during the Ring War (and had been actively "adventuring" since before he was twenty) and knew a good bit of the dwarven tongue.

Im with Anastas here, back in the day the DID have beards (which I always thought was stupid) and now they don't. Thank god for that. I assume Palladium's Dwarven women are beardless as I have yet to see it anywhere that says otherwise. Well GW loves to change the background story all the time, so sometimes they might have em and sometimes not. Just look at the female Dwarf Thane model. As far as I know its the only female Dwarf in the range and narry a beard in site. JSUN
