well, since Crista's invite was so nice and she thinks she's above acting in a civilized manner, all bets are off. if Crista doesn't want to be rational, we can fight, no big deal, I can just blow up the inn if i'm so motivated!
Both of our characters are tired of her threats; neither Oskar or Elkharn are in the mood to deal with Crista's attitude. As you can see from our last posts, we're both out. Have a great game, now there are 2 less PCs to deal with, lol. They're just not gonna fit in with this game, so move along with it without us.

nothing personal, LWW, but...
unfortunately, a dwarf fighter and chaotic neutral wizard who knows what Crista is all about aren't gonna take too kindly to threats. My char already doesn't trust Crista because of what he knows about her, and a high elf threatening a dwarven fighter?!? no offense, but I had to talk Arryk out of having Oskar bullrush Crista, which would be within his character's personality (remember, elves see dwarves as sticks in the mud and generally look down their noses at anyone who isn't an elf, while dwarves see elves as flighty and kinda brain dead).
as for the whole "we expect Crista to trust us, but that's not how she works". that's cool, but you have to expect that PC's won't take too kindly to being threatened by someone who asked for their help! and then threatens to kill them! when they're not even members of the guild! you created a character who is brash, abrasive, and generally disagreeable, and not all PC's are gonna lay down and accept it while blindly following the orders of someone who threatens to kill them! remember, we were just sitting in the bar and you called us over, not like Treva's character actively searching you out...
this ought to make for some interesting role-playing though... let's see if Crista can salvage something with Oskar and Elkharn (which both of us would prefer). And it shouldn't involve us folding and giving in to someone who tries to draft us and then says "help me or I'll kill you."

"Well, seeing as how I'm bored, I'll be taking my leave now, you arrogant little twit!" The room fills with a mist, and a window can be heard crashing.
(OOC-that was Obscuring Mist. And Elkharn also cast fly on himself, and the crashing was Elkharn flying through a window...I'm out of the game now, so have a good one!)

"Ahh, yes, I was wondering when you would say that," came a sound from one part of the room. "I could care less about trust, sweetheart, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna be threatened by a loose-lipped elf on a power trip who asked me to help her!" His voice was coming from all parts of the room. "And keep in mind that I don't have to be visible to cause some chaos!" Elkharn laughed.
(OOC-since the Obscuring Mist never happened, remember, I have an extra spell now, and I can cast defensively while invisible! <g>)

Elkharn gets up, stretches, and yawns quite loudly. "Ahh, yes, the high and mighty Crista, so full of herself that she has to threaten a slew of adventurers into helping her." He glares at Crista. "You may have been able to threaten my sister, but you'll find I have little patience for your idiocy, woman!" He turns to face the rest of the assembled crowd. "You may be spineless enough to follow this woman by threat alone, but I'll have no part of it," he says and turns back to face Crista, fading from view as he mumbles a few words and fades from view, becoming invisible. "Unless, of course, you ask very nicely!"

"Impress you? The insane genasi, Ignitius DePyre? Please, that makes as much sense as trying to impress her," Elkharn replies, pointing at Crista. "Yes, I know who most of you are. As for my 'parlor trick', it was this for a bit of privacy or something a tad more flashy that some of her underlings wouldn't have survived. This was safer."

"Boy, you are as biatchy as my sister mentioned," Elkharn said casually. "Y'know, asking would work just as well as threats. Unlike Akhillia, I happen to enjoy the... darker side of things," he finished, a wolfish grin on his lips. "And if one of your boys makes a move, I'll make sure they can't see me coming for them," he said innocently as he continued standing. "As a matter of fact, perhaps we should have a bit more privacy."
"DARK MIST!" <casts Obscuring Mist>
As he finishes his words, the group finds themselves surrounded by a dark cloud, and none of them can see beyond their small area. Elkharn sits down quite arrogantly. "Now, perhaps we can discuss your proposition a tad more civilized?"

Hey guys... I know there are a few Pagans around here, so here's a new forum I found. It's about 3 weeks old, 80 members, and a good group of people... www.sacred-pathways.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgiIt's called Sacred Pathways, and it's got a lot of everything. Wiccans, Witchcraft, Druidism, Hellenic Reconstructionism... If you don't see it, ask and someone can probably start a forum for it!

See, that's my rpoblem, Merkuri. I shouln't have to worry about whether or not I'll be able to "fill in the blanks" when I go to a movie. I'd say "pooh pooh" to myself if it weren't for the fact that Fellowship and Towers didn't have the same choppiness that King did. I'm guessing that an awful lot must have ended up on the cutting room floor.
This is generally why I HATE the movie version of any book; there's always something changed, left out, added or in some other way re-interpreted that shouldn't be touched in the first place. <sigh>
Awards? This will probably snag a lot of technical stuff, but my gut tells me that the Academy will ignore it all together, and I'd even be surprised if the Golden Globes gives it "Best Drama". Too much competition from too many other films this year...

Did anyone else actually see this yet? And what did you think?
Saw it last night, Arryk, my partner, has been waiting forever to see it. What a letdown. Not on the magnitude of, say, Matrix: Revolutions, but a letdown nonetheless.
My main beef was that it seemed very choppy. I still haven't decided whether it is bad film editing, a poorly done script, or the fact that certain things were cut from the movie. There was just this awful sense of "did I fall asleep and miss something?" by the time the film was over.
Some of the stuntwork was just silly. And some of the lines as well. Ok, the whole "I can kill more orcs than you" competition between Gimli and Legolas was cute in the second installment. It fell flat in this one, mainly because the films made Gimli out to be comedy relief, which he is not. And what the phk with the elephant and Legolas?!? That was just over the top.
And worst of all, it dragged. The last hour was pure torture. I'm sure it worled well on paper, but not in the movie. Maybe I was just frustrated at that point, maybe I was sick of the cast and the film itself, I don't know. But I kept thinking "Please destroy that damn ring. And do it now. So the movie can end. And now that the ring is destroyed, can Aragorn become king so everyone can live happily ever after?!?"
And what the hell was Peter thinking when he chopped out Christopher Lee's scenes? First off, another great actor in a cast of great actors. Secondly, the second film ended with the Battle at Eisengard, and then we get 5 minutes of "Sauruman is trapped within his tower to be forever guarded by Treebeard and the Ents". Uhhh... aside from the fact that Sauruman actually got his butt kicked at the end of the third book, after attacking the Shire, please explain to me how you can take was was one of the most important parts of part 2, important enough to end the freakin film, I might add, and toss it out the window in part 3? Please? I haven't heard a reasonable answer yet!
Were there good things about it? Of course, 99% of the acting was well above most major picture releases; Viggo, Orlando, Ian, Elijah, and the rest did a great job. It's obvious that (a) this film took a long time to do, and (b) that there was an obvious comraderie and chemistry among the players that certainly made it to the screen. Nothing ever felt forced; these actors were the Fellowship, IMO.
Most of the cinematography was brilliant. Peter Jackson put together a film which was visually stunning, the CGI never looked cheesy or out-of-place, and everything looked "right", if you know what I mean.
Guess my beef is the editing and story/script. Maybe the first two films should have been longer. Maybe this one should have been longer. But there was something very much off about RoTK; it was not in the same class as the first two, IMO. Which is disappointing.

Arryk watched it, and he had mixed feelings about it. On one hand, he thought the update was cool, but on the other hand there wer some pretty drastic changes. His biggest complaint... how can a "mini-series" only be 4 hours long?

The only redeeming quality about that flick was that it got Jeremy Irons and Thora Birch mortgage payments for their houses... I doubt that it's actually made it onto the resume. What a horrid movie.
If elected president, I would use my powers for good by declaring that movie unconstitutional and having all copies destroyed in the attempt that the deletion of this film from modern popular culture will result in the increase of art and music classes in school. No more worrying about our students growing up to do bad movies... by erasing this utter pile of dung from our collective memories, we will encourage students to produce "good" art. And by that I mean nothing this bad ever again. Please.

anyone else see last night's premier? What did you think of it? Decent concept? And more importantly.. do you (a) think it was dumb of Fox to put a potentially good show up against Survivor and Friends and (b) can Eliza Dushku, formerly known as Faith the Vampire Slayer, really carry a tv series on her own that's not vampire related?
