Wealth of Turquoise Spell
One of December’s most magical symbols is the blue turquoise. For this spell, place a turquoise stone in the center of a piece of paper. To the left of the stone, draw the shape of an anchor; on the right, draw a hand. Holding your power hand above the paper say:
I am anchored and steady. I’m ready to receive abundance and prosperity. Now hold the turquoise. Breathe on it, then speak: Stone of blue, Like sky and sea, Favor me with wealth. It must be.
Lay the stone on the paper, then fold it as you would fold a letter. Place this prosperity packet near where you keep your wallet or purse. Handle the turquoise occasionally, to keep the spell active.

Do-Unto-Others Spell
Many Witches believe that whatever you do returns to you three-fold. So today, practice three random acts of kindness. Pay for the coffee of the stranger behind you at the coffee shop. Let someone go ahead of you in line at the grocery store. Do the dishes, or vacuum the living room when it isn’t your turn. Leave the waitress an extra large tip. Shovel snow or mow the lawn for a neighbor. Get in the spirit of the holiday season by being kind to others.

Golem Lore for the First Day of Hanukkah
An interesting myth of Jewish tradition involves the creation of an artificial human through the mysterious magic of the Qabala. The golem is a Frankensteinian creation; however, instead of being merely a reanimated human being or one made of human parts, the golem is altogether artificial and is animated by the use of magical and holy words. The most famous golem legend revolves around Rabbi Loew of Prague. There are several versions of this legend, which is set in the mid-eighteenth century. In most versions, the rabbi creates the golem as a guardian or protector of the Jewish people in the Prague ghetto. But soon the huge creature—built of clay and animated by the secret name of God—runs amok and must be destroyed. In some golem legends it is the Star of David itself that animates the creature, and only the removal of this symbol from the creature’s body will cause the havoc to cease. The story of the golem seems to have a moral: that man should not “tamper in God’s domain,” as the saying goes. It was perhaps meant as a cautionary tale to those who took Qabalistic magic too far from its sacred origins and wished to use it to glorify their own powers. In any case, the golem is a folk legend that spans many centuries, has many versions—including on film, with the silent version from 1915 perhaps the most excellent.

Purification from Negativity Spell
To purify yourself from negative thoughts, bad habits, or dark experiences, use a potent mix of equal parts bloodroot, thistle, and lemon verbena. Start by grinding the herbs in your mortar and pestle and burning them in your censor. State aloud in the direction of the smoke each thing you want to eliminate. Watch each negative item drift away from you in the smoke. Make sure you grind enough of the herbs to last through the rite if you intend to eliminate more than a few things. When you have voiced everything, waft the incense toward yourself and cleanse the last negative remnants away.

Yule and Solstice Ritual
The solstice is a time for gathering resources out from deep in the subconscious. Surround yourself with candles of red, green, and white, and evergreens and holly, as you say:
Longest night and shortest day, Magic comes bright. We gather now on this longest night, Honoring darkness, praising light. Dancers hail the standing stones, As growing solar light returns. Ancient ones at Newgrange gathered, Awaiting dawns first light. Hidden tombs and carvings old, Illuminated by solstice sunlight bright. World round, grateful souls Celebrate this night of returning light. May we see this shaft of brilliance, A sign of summer growing. Cut the evergreen adornments, And build the sacred fire to coax the Sun higher. Yule log embers and torches bright, Warm our dreams this magical night. Memories and ancient secrets Of the Druids come to me tonight. May this increase my wisdom now, The ancestors guide my spirit. Magnifying brilliance and promises to come, Spirals dance in solstice first light. Visions planted, now on this night, Grow strong and clear with the light. Holly, mistletoe, ivy, pine, Magic be, on this day. So mote it be.

Strengthening the Foundations of Your Intentions Spell
Capricorn is associated with the earth element and with foundations in our lives. By strengthening our spiritual core and foundations, we help ourselves to be more solid and grounded in our beliefs and our goals. Without a solid core to depend on, our lives are as precarious as any building with a week foundation. To prepare for this spell you will need a few dark rocks such as obsidian, jade, or onyx. You will also need some root herbs such as ginseng and licorice. And you will need a small box no more than a few inches in diameter, and four darkly colored candles. On the night of the New Moon, place the four candles in the four directions and then light them. Ask for assistance in your magical work, and then open up the box before you. Place the roots and the rocks inside the box. As you do this, say aloud your basic beliefs and your core intentions in life. Make these words clear and heartfelt. The roots and stones are symbols of your intentions. As you place them in the box, ask that these foundations may support you on your journey and that positive manifestations will flower from these good intentions. Keep the box on an altar until you feel you need to renew your foundation work.

Spell for Christmas Eve
For many of us, the holidays seem at odds with an otherwise meditative and quiet time of year. This spell serves as a special gift to yourself. Start by asking yourself what it is you want now. Carve out a piece of time on this day for your spell. Decorate your altar with greenery, a cauldron, and any 0ther decorations that are meaningful to you. Place your gift to yourself inside the cauldron. Or, if it won’t fit in the cauldron, write its name on a piece of paper. Burn a new red candle dressed with bayberry oil. Focus on the flame and feel the magic vibrating around you. Feel your power coming up from your solar plexus. You can make yourself happy and at peace if you only give yourself the gift. Merry Christmas!

Mistletoe Spell for Luck
With a consecrated ritual dagger, ceremonially cut a piece of mistletoe at sunrise on winter solstice. As you do this, recite thrice the following incantation: “Golden bough and Witch’s broom, thy sacred names are spoken. By dagger’s blade I conjure thee to see all bad luck broken. Harming none, this spell is done. By law of three, so mote it be!” Hang the white-berried plant over the front door of your house to bring good luck to all who dwell within. Mistletoe, which was sacred to the druids and used in their ancient fertility rites, is also said to possess the powers of healing and protection against evil, fire, illness, and bad luck.

Superfueled Nutrition
Our mothers are right—good nutrition is a foundation of good health. My mother’s favorite saying was: “A car can’t run without gas.” So in keeping with the car-as-good-health metaphor, let’s say you can increase the octane of your food and drink by tapping into the energies of the universe. To do this on a daily basis, pour yourself a glass of water (preferably spring or purified). Extend your hands over the glass, forming the thumbs and forefingers into a triangle. Visualize a stream of energy passing through the triangle and into the water. Don’t worry on the color of this energy; let the universe choose. Enjoy your new smooth-running engine.

Find a New House Spell
Need to find new housing in a hurry? Or maybe things have stalled on the house you want to buy. This quick spell should get things moving. Start by drawing a picture of your desired home on a piece of paper. If you have an ad for the exact place you want, clip it out and paste it to the drawing. Light a brown candle, saying:
Housing, housing, Come to me.
Roll the paper up, place it in a small glass bottle, and seal it. Put the bottle somewhere in the room you consider the heart of your current home. Once the new home is secured, remove the drawing and burn it in the candle flame. If possible, bury what remains of both candle and ashes.

The old year is about to pass now. You can use white candles to symbolize this passing. This is a spell for letting go of things which hold you back as we move into the new year.
Blessed year passing away, Make your joys with me stay.
Make me lucky, make me wise. Magic blessings before these eyes.
Magical time between old and new, Yesterday and tomorrow. Lessons learned will be due Pass away regret and sorrow.
Magic passing stay with me, And I will hold you dear. New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, Let the spirits of possibility play.
Words that open doors to secrets old and new dear. What I reap return to me. Tomorrow begins another year.
Skills I have to grow and blossom, Talents I lack will come to me. May lessons learned stay now with me, With open eyes, I am free.
Grow powers in me and vision true, To clear the past and grow anew. None of the past will cling to me. I am happy.
So mote it be.

Luck Lore for the New Year
New Year's Day - Kwanzaa ends
All ancient religion stems from the same magical impulse. As the Hindu Brahmans say, "We must do what the gods did in the beginning." In all religion and myth, sacred time, or ritual, is a reenactment of the beginning time, the first year, when the gods walked the earth and taught men and women how to live. Knowledge of the beginning is the source of all magical power, and the quest for this knowledge is the reason behind the creation of all myths and rituals. All holidays are a sacred reenactment of the beginning. Many of the holidays that you will find in this almanac are a celebration of this renewal as practiced in its various forms among different cultures around the world. Chief among those holidays is our current celebration of New Year. It has not always been celebrated on the same day. In England, the New Year was celebrated on December 25, and then on March 25, before it was moved to the first of January. Despite the confusion, this day is a celebration and reliving of the creation of the world, the wresting of order out of chaos. As we will see, the evening before the New Year is a time when the social order and routines of daily life are suspended to symbolize the world's dissolving into chaos. On New Year's Day, thankfully, the order is recreated. This is therefore meant to be a day of serious worship, joyous celebration, and a time to make resolutions-to create one's self and to restore one's behavior. Things that are done on this day will affect us for the entire year. It is important to perform a magical ritual to assure our continued good fortune. In popular culture, these magic rituals are often disguised as "good luck" practices. For example, a common practice among some African Americans is to include a dish called Hoppin' John in the New Year's feast. This dish, made from black-eyed peas, rice, and ham hocks, ensures good luck through the year.
Holiday Lore: New Year's Day calls for safeguards, augurs, charms, and proclamations. All over the world on this day, people kiss strangers, shoot guns in the air, toll bells, and exchange gifts. Preferred gifts are herring, bread, and fuel for the fire.

A Healing Love Charm June 11th, 2004
Color of the day: Pink Incense of the day: Rose
Use this spell to soothe hurt feelings after you’ve had a fight with your romantic partner. Light a pink candle; ground and center. Before you, place the following: the Lovers card from a tarot deck, two yellow yarrow flowers with stems, and one pink ribbon. Gaze deeply at the card. Take note that the angel Raphael’s arms are outstretched as he is looking upon the couple. Although the lovers are not touching, they are balanced and comfortable with each other. Next, tie the yarrow stems together with the pink ribbon. Visualize you and your lover united, protected and in harmony with each other. Hang the yarrow to dry near your bed. Yarrow is a strong love herb. Repeat this spell only if absolutely necessary.

The Oak 12th June
The oak is as masculine as the willow is femine. Its solar influence covers the peek of the Sun's power--a time when the nights are the shortest and the days are hot and long.
The oak tree can teach us about endurance and fortitude when we're ready to give up on something we want.
If the fight has gone out of you, renew it during the Oak Moon. Scour the earth for acorns, collecting one for each area you need a boost of courage: mental, physical or spiritual.
Empower the acorns by holding them close to your heart and saying:
From tiny acorns the mighty oak does spring, Stonger each year, with each new ring; Teach your secret of strength to me, Each new challenge overcome shall be.
Sleep with the acorns under your pillow, and carry them with you until you overcome your obstacles.
