[From Slashdot: slashdot.org/articles/04/03/03/1340239.shtml]Digital 'Ghosts' To Guide Students On CampusThe students at Copenhagen's new IT University will soon be guided by invisible, but talkative digital agents, known as ghosts or Disembodied Location-specific Conversational Agents (DELCA). The ghosts are to compete amongst themselves for privileges such as better vocabulary or the ability to clone themselves. Ignored ghosts can die out completely. This project is a lot more serious than it sounds at face value - several papers have been published already.

I just wish they had this project on my campus while I was still in school. I love new technologies, especially things that deal with AI.
Imagine walking into your house and having a ghost flick the lights on and off to let you know it's there, and then being able to ask it if you got any emails while you were gone or if the dog had been fed yet. The possibilities of these ghost "agents" is just fascinating to me.

Cool.
How do you get lost on campus? I realize my year in college is in the distant misty past of about three years ago, but I had no problem navigating and Grand Valley State University isn't exactly small.
And the defective Mac that I'm using won't display that second page you link to.

Bloody oath. I got lost on my campus pretty frequently the first year. Western University is pretty spread out. not as bad as U of Toronto though. Man, that place is HUGE! You need a bus to get between classes.

So's my college (GA Tech). We have a bus system to take us between classes (3 of them, in fact). This would be a lifesaver for college kids - especially ones at tough schools that don't give students time to do menial tasks that the ghost might be able to do.
