Treva sparked off some thoughts with a recent post of his on another forum which seemed farfetched (with giants + godlike powers) but with something to it.
Who thinks that transhumanism is possible, that through advanced technology and knowledge of the sciences (inc nanotechnology, genetic engineering etc) our race could improve itself and eventually surpass it's current condition?
What would be the moral/ethical issues involved? If possible what is the most likely way it will come about? If you believe it is impossible why?

I think that not only can we alter ourselves using nanotechnology, genetic modifications, etc, but that it is also our right to. We were created with the greatest minds among the races to inhabit the world and that not taking advantage of that faculty is folly. From a moral standpoint, do you think whatever powers may be would grant us such intellectual faculty if they believed against it? I'm not one to presume on nature of the supernatural, but I do realize that we stand on the cusp of perhaps the greatest change since industrialization, and that it is only natural for us to push forward through it.
Considering it existentially, I believe that such a change could be justified by saying that despite the many ways in which we may change physically or intellectually, the human spirit lives within each of us and the curious human personality will continue to define us as individuals within a race of individuals until our end.
