The war has raged for years. The high-tech ammo is almost gone. High-tech equipment is failing, piece by piece, with no spares to fix it. The front lines are held by a few grim, desperate soldiers.
The US 5th Division holds the line in Poland. Now, a Soviet encirclement has cut it off in a province ruled by ambitious warlords, local militias, and bands of marauding deserters. HQ is 200 klicks to the rear and powerless.
Your last order sets you free...
"Good luck. You're on your own."
This is how the game is introduced on it's cover. Think you could make it home alive?

The great thing is that this old GDW game is now back in print.

Man oh man, this was a great old game.
Through seven different incarnations of this game with my group, all of whom are former military of one branch or another, out of twenty nine total player characters who started in that situation, two finally made it back and one of those died within a week of getting "home".
Twilight 2000 really delievered as a game.

Definatly, Twilight2000 is a classic. To be honest, I thought this game was going to be one of the first to jump on the d20 Modern bandwagon... I'm so glad it hasn't.

Doom had much fun playing that game when he was out in Edmonton for a few years. The most memorable part was fermenting the bodies of our dead enemies to make fuel.

I was stationed in England for two years and we had a group of about thirty members. We played many games but merc 2000 was the best developed and to top it off we ordered merc mercanary magazines for all of our pricing guides...you have to love 20 lbs of C4...it solves a lot of problems.
