Not understanding why they were feeling so drained, the knights began to take notice of each other and the forms creeping up their legs.

In a panic, the King's Knights started to run back toward the castle keep, hoping the witch had been awakened and would know how to rid them of the shadows.

The witch's face grimaced, her body twitched, as her mind fought with the essence of the entity which had bonded with her.

Entering the king's court, the apprentice to the witch rushed to her mistress' prone body.

After all, she was just an apprentice, and if the witch, herself, couldn't defeat this malady, what chance did she have?

The knights stumble into the main hall, and the apprentice witch looks up to see them and their shadowy attatchments enter.

Realising that she is going to have to try and help the Knight's without the witches help, the apprentice stands and tells the Knights they must rest so the shadowy forms do not drain their life's enegery so fast, and that can give her time to try and find a way to help them.

Once the apprentice gets the knights calm again, the shadowy shapes dissappear and the knights realize they'd only been an illusion designed to get them to leave their posts unguarded.

With much hast, they rush back to where they had encountered the shadows, only to find a barren wasteland where once a lush valley had been.

He turned around slowly, looking around at the horrible creations strewn about haphazardly on wooden shelves, and to his centerpiece, the daughter of the Duke of Porrack, a light amidst the gloom of his lair.
