”A Pince and a Princess” by myself
Once upon a time, on a planet far far away lived a young prince. His planet was a paradise world that didn’t see war for thousands of years, for it was in the very heart of a great empire. The young prince was the heir of this empire and since his childhood he had everything one could wish for, being surrounded by wealth and luxury. But although some say that such life corrupts, the young prince has grown into kind and strong man, both handsome in appearance and a master of swordsmanship. He was much loved, especially among the common people, who idolized the young prince for his deeds, both real and made-up.
But as the young prince grew, he started to realize that everything was more complicated. For the prince’s mother, one of two queens of the empire, came from a distant planet on the outskirts of the empire, the planet that was considered primitive and barbaric by the prince’s people and whose inhabitants knew nothing of the empire they were part of. Although her intelligence won her an important position within the empire and although she was gifted her with life hundred times longer then that of any of her people, the noble men of the empire still viewed both her and her son, their crown prince, as outsiders and didn’t like the idea of an outsider ruling them one day.
The prince’s father, the emperor, was a hard and strict man, but none could deny his wisdom. He knew that although the tradition called for prince to inherit the throne, should it happen the noble men would rebel against the prince, shattering the empire that stood since the dawn of time. Yet should he break the tradition and deny the prince his inheritance, the common people will start a rebellion in their beloved prince’s name, whether he would wish for that or no.
And so, the emperor did the only thing he could to preserve his empire – he announced the prince’s engagement to his eldest daughter, the prince’s half-sister. When the eldest princess would grow up, for she was still a child back then, she was to marry the crown prince, and when the time would come, they would rule the empire together as husband and wife.
This decision stratified everybody, just as the emperor knew it would – the common people would see the tradition maintained and their beloved prince upon the throne, while the noble men would have their pureblood ruler, the would-be queen. And although the engagement was arranged by their parents, the princess was happy about it, for she truly loved the prince, and the prince loved her as well… but alas, only as a sister.
Everybody approved the emperor’s idea, but nobody bothered to ask the prince. This frustrated the prince and even more so because he knew that the only other option was a civil war. And he could do nothing but hide his frustration. And what hurt the prince even more was seeing how his little sister loved him and knowing that even if he is forced to marry her, he could never truly return her feelings. But seeing how happy his little sister was, the prince decided to endure for her sake, even if that meant sacrificing his own happiness.
But then, suddenly, their world was turned upside down, as a horrible demon fall upon it. With one step it could cross a giant mountain, with one blow it could shatter a mighty castle… There seemed to be no defense against it. The soldiers who stood guard on the prince home planet were few, for nobody would believe that the enemy could strike directly into the heart of the empire, and none of these soldiers saw any fighting in centuries. They were no match against the powerful demon…
Amidst the fire and destruction, the prince told the princess that he is going to face the demon, for he is the only one who can hope to defeat it. He promised to come back to her once he vanquish the demon, board his spaceship and chased the demon away from his home planet.
And the princess waited, waited for eternity… Days became months and months became years, years turned into decades and decades into centuries… The princess grew into a beautiful young woman, but her prince never came back. One by one, everybody stopped hoping that prince will ever come back, believing that he also fall victim to demon’s power. In time, there were only a few left who still believed that the prince is alive somewhere, the princess among these few.
But when the emperor himself stopped hoping for prince’s return, officially annulled the princess’ engagement with the prince and proclaimed the princess his heir, the princess couldn’t wait for her prince any longer. And so, accompanied by her younger sister and a pair of guardians, the princess boarded her own spaceship and sailed off into the space in search for her prince…
The rest is a different story.
