not true. check gamespy eversince the price drop before the holiday sesason gamecube has been ahead i can't remember the exact link becasue it was around the holiday but basicly they had to diffrent way of checking the sales in one nintendo was last however i believe that was whole sale when it came to cansumer nintendo was in second sony beat both nintendo and microsoft in both categories.

Wholesale is from vendor to retailer. It's the retailer to consumer part that counts. If the retailer can't sell the units, they won't order any more. Also, retailers allocate floor space to product based on how well a product sells. Strong sellers get more floor space. Last time I had checked locally (which for me is Chicago IL) Xbox consistently had better exposure and a broader range of product than the Cube.

The way the article is worded, it appears he is only referring to the previous Christmas season and not the total sales figures from the time each of the consoles launched. If Nintendo can pass Sony and Microsoft in TOTAL sales of the Cube by the time their new system launches in 2004 or 2005, more power to them.

gamespy has a new article for all three consols called the consol time line if you look at nintendo's you can see that they are in second place however it is a recent thing so if you look on the first three or so pages it dosn't look good for them
