great. what a fine mess my character is in. let's just tick off the points, shall we?
*first, i have been captured. as i was in combat, i have been shown mercy in combat, which is against my code. i have been branded af'harl already, unless i swear blood-loyalty to the man(men) who stunned me, which i will not do.
*secondly, i can't go after Borke, because you want him alive, which can't happen with me. all combat is to the death. Borke has to die.
*thirdly, if i even spoke to Borke, which i don't beleive i did, i did not give him my own word that i would complete this mission. but as my code states, all word, action, and story are sratt, which is eternally binding. eternally. so i canot switch sides to go against Borke, because that would make me af-harl (as i have joined this mission, those were my actions, binding me to this mission, therefore it is my sratt).
so, basically, i'm in a real hard spot here. suggestions?

Being captured in combat by a species OTHER than Coynite, does not mean mercy. There are plenty of creatures in the universe that use ONLY non-lethal attacks. *secondly, i can't go after Borke, because you want him alive, which can't happen with me. all combat is to the death. Borke has to die. It's Byrg not Borke that you'll be going after, and you can accompany the party, you simply can not help to capture him. Of course if he were to NOT enter the combat (send others to attack but never draw a weapon) he would not be counted as combatant anyway. Think of the Predator code here. No weapon use, no combatant status.*thirdly, if i even spoke to Borke, which i don't beleive i did, i did not give him my own word that i would complete this mission. but as my code states, all word, action, and story are sratt, which is eternally binding. eternally. so i canot switch sides to go against Borke, because that would make me af-harl (as i have joined this mission, those were my actions, binding me to this mission, therefore it is my sratt). Don't forget yet another part of your laws. af’tah (“deception”) or harl’tah (“cowardice”) are unforgivable sins. Challenging the injured or weak to combat is cowardice and is unforgivable. Those who deceive or show cowardice are branded af’harl.
Therefore you could also consider that Byrg, a rather rotund and out of shape individual is weak and therefore can not be challenged to combat. And that since Borke used af'tah to get you out of his way, thus showing his harl'tah Any sratt you may have had with him is now null and void as you can not give your word to an af'harl such as Borke.so, basically, i'm in a real hard spot here. suggestions? Any other questions?

i tend to disagree.
your point: Being captured in combat by a species OTHER than Coynite, does not mean mercy. There are plenty of creatures in the universe that use ONLY non-lethal attacks. my point: then by that aspect, the whole part of the code about ME not showing mercy in combat would also be null and void. why have that be in the code in the first place, if it's going to be used on a case-by-case basis?
your point: It's Byrg not Borke that you'll be going after, and you can accompany the party, you simply can not help to capture him. Of course if he were to NOT enter the combat (send others to attack but never draw a weapon) he would not be counted as combatant anyway. Think of the Predator code here. No weapon use, no combatant status. my point: but there's a problem with that. if both are to be considered af-harl, then they deserved to be killed, murdered, what have you. if, as the arguement seems to be going, i'm to regain my honor, it would have to be with their deaths.

And that since Borke used af'tah to get you out of his way, thus showing his harl'tah Any sratt you may have had with him is now null and void as you can not give your word to an af'harl such as Borke my point: but that still does not matter. the sratt is eternally binding, so even if they have decieved me, i still have to follow through with my own agreement. to break my agreement would make me as bad as them, branding me af-harl. also, since you've stated i've been decieved, thereby making themselves af-harl, i have every right to kill them rather than capture them. they are no longer bound by the code as non-combatants, they have no rights.

There is also the point that combat had not actually started when you were stunnedyour point: It's Byrg not Borke that you'll be going after, and you can accompany the party, you simply can not help to capture him. You have been given no proof that Byrg is af'harl only that Borke is.your point: Therefore you could also consider that Byrg, a rather rotund and out of shape individual is weak and therefore can not be challenged to combat. No. Sratt given to one who proves to beaf'harl (since they have no status what-so-ever and are non-beings as far as Coynites are concerened) does not exist. Since once shown to be af'harl, the being no longer exists, the "eternally" binding sratt no longer is binding.

Combat started as soon as the ambush was sprung. if i had not been stunned, who knows how many dead guardsmen there would be right now, because i wasn't pulling any punches.
I gave my promise, through my actions, to fulfill the mission. I cannot get out of fulfilling that promise by now trying to take out the people who sent me on this mission to steal something out of the safe. It is still binding, because it was a promise that i meant to fulfill.
Borke is not a Coynite. and cannot be branded af'harl. he doesn not live by my code. but i do. and my promise to him is still binding. i cannot go on this mission with the group against them.

Ok, now you're just being difficult. If Borke is not Coynite and his deception doesn't matter, then the fact that the guardsmen aren't Coynite makes the mercy shown you by stunning you also does not matter. Next. NO ONE IS CURRENTLY GOING AFTER BORKE. The target of the mission Makina is offering is the Planetary Governor Tegist Byrg. A man you have never met or made any promises to.

no, i'm not being difucult. your being blind.
i promised to fulfill my mission. i did not. i cannot get out of my mission by taking out the people who offered me the first mission. whether i'm going after Borke or not matters not. Borke is tied in with Byrg. they work together, YES?
