So how do I spend my Saturdays? some of you may ask (I'm sure most of you wouldn't really care). It varies widely and wildly.
Today I helped a witch move. No really, she's a nice Wiccan gal, who lived just down the street from my mom. She's the mom of my younger brother's best friends and she and my mom used to lead full moon drummings.
She ran into financial difficulty and had to move from her nice country house to an apartment. I finished packing up the boys's room and hauled boxes.
My back still hurts a bit. I did manage to avoid most of the heavy furniture moving of the sort that takes two guys and a dolly, but I did the heaviest stuff that could be lifted by one person.
I'm not afraid of hard work, but I have trouble with the bring your end up, now go left, no your other left kind of team work things. I am that muddled with directions and timing.
So that's how I spent this Saturday.
Last Saturday I was supposed to be at my cousin, Shawn's wedding, but I was kind of counting on my dad for a ride, but my brother was sick, so dad didn't go. I have two brothers. One is twelve years old (ten years younger than me) the son of my mom and my former step dad. The other is two (twenty years younger than me), the son of my dad and a gal who narrowly avoided being my step mom for a while.
So basically I ended up hanging out at my mom's that Saturday.

Two Saturdays ago my dad was at work for the evening, so I decided to catch a bus out to the mall. This is not that hard. I catch one bus near my dad's apartment and then transfer over to another one at the Transit Center down town where most of the buses meet up.
Once I get to the mall I look around for a little bit, and then I think that going to Barnes & Noble down the street might be cool. There are two ways to do that:
1) Walk. This is at least a fifteen minute walk that involves crossing a very busy major street. It's also winter, so it involves wading through half a foot of snow and then crashing through three foot high snow banks.
2) Catch another bus from the mall that just goes up and down this major street and stops right in front of Barnes & Noble.
I decide to catch the bus. That might have been a smart move. The stupid move was going to Barnes & Noble in the first place.
I get to Barnes & Noble okay. I look around for a little while, then check my bus schedules. That's when I notice that the Saturday schedule is shorter than the week day schedule (it would have been smart to know that or keep that in mind all along).
I then notice, that if I am to catch a bus home, it is imperative that I catch one very soon. I think no problem and pick a time to head out the door that should get me to the stop closest to Barnes & Noble safely on time.
I head out the door and see my bus driving by. Oops! I thought it would show up closer to the time named for the next stop after the mall than the time named for the mall.
No problem I wait half an hour and catch the next bus and get off at the mall. Then I check my schedule for the bus that comes to the mall. Oops! I missed the last one going back into town.
So now, I've got to call someone for a ride. And I've got to get some place with a pay phone to call from. Now I do have to cross this street to get to the row of fast food restaurants on the other side (that's one of the better places to wait for a ride; I like to take advantage of ther free refill policy for all it's worth). I hit Arby's first. No pay phone there. I find this out after I already buy my token small drink, so I'm not a loiterer. So, I move onto Burger King, the next one down. They've already closed the dining room for the night. Next is McDonalds. They have a pay phone and are still open. I call my mom for a ride (still have somewhere between half an hour and an hour and a half before my dad is due home from work). She agrees to come pick me up. Now I just have to wait. I buy a McChicken and a small drink and sit down and read the dollar paperback I picked up at Barnes & Noble. After a while I'm asked to leave because they have to close the dining room. Not a big deal. I just stand in front of the McDonalds for about ten minutes and my mom shows up.
Oh, why did I make the ill-considered side trip to Barnes & Noble? To see if a girl I think is cute was working there that night and ask for her phone number. She wasn't there.

Another Saturday. It hasn't totally ended, but here's what's happened so far. Another wedding. This time for a friend of the family. The groom is a friend of my aunt (my mother's younger sister). I never even met the bride til today. Fortunately I was just part of the regular audience and not an usher or groomsman or anything significant.
Why does every wedding reception require that the "Chicken Dance" and "YMCA" be played? Those are two of the stupidest songs ever.
Now I'm home. My bed broke about two nights ago, so I finished dismantling the frame because it was beyond my skills to fix and simply set the mattress and box spring directly on the floor.
I know I'm around 300 pounds and that I don't necessarily use furniture gently, but I do think they make it too flimsy also.
Finally finished setting my room back to rights, putting my bedside tables and the junk on them back where they were.

Sorry to hear you didn't get her phone number... Maybe next Saturday... I stopped back to that Barnes & Noble Wednesday. She still wasn't there. I'll head over there some other time. I know you didn't ask, but the girl in question's name is Alicia. I went to school with her in fifth through eighth grades and thought she was kind of cute back then. I ran into her working at the Barnes and Noble about a month or two ago on a Monday. That's what got me thinking about her and the possibility of asking her out. Knowing my luck I will manage to run into her again and aske her out and find out she's married or something. well you have interesting Sauterdays. My are a little busy well now any way, I run demos for the comic book store owner and they start at like 9:00 AM and last till 8:00 PM. Okay, why'd I change the name of this thread? I figure it's kind of my online version of a journal, but the title was Lazy Saturday Afternoons and I had a day interesting enough to be worth mentioning today, so I thougt a more generic name would be good.
So how was today? Interesting. I decided to follow my mom, while she ran her errands ealrier and then went to a discussion of The Goddess and the Sacred Feminine in religion later in the evening. We went to a Chinese restaurant for lunch (China Palace on Alpine home of the best hot and sour soup in west Michigan), and I got orange chicken some of which ended up on my shirt. Immediatly after that I got a hair cut at Bo-Rics down the street. I found out I know little of the terinology. I don't know whether them to use the clippers on the sides or whether I want it over the ears. I just know I don't want to look like shady, hippy scum that no one would want to hire, whether or not I actually am. Then we had to drive out to Cedar Springs (one of the more far flung country-ish suburbs) to pick Amy (a cousin) up from work at McDonalds and take her home to Sand Lake (an even further flung, but close to Cedar, suburb that is even more country-ish) because our extended family is down to one car among six people that need to get places, and that car was tied up on other business. The car's battery dies in the McDonalds parking lot, so we have to get a jump. After we got Amy home things quieted down until time for the Goddess thing, except I changed out of my ornage chicken stained shirt, but my initial choice was a plaid flannel shirt. It might have been okay by itself (it was a casual event), but combined with the black cape I was wearing (I wear a cape when I can get away with it and at an event at a college hosted and organized by the college's Pagan club Ways of the Earth is definitely a place I can get away with it), my mother suggested that I looked like a goth Yuper (a Yuper is an individual form Michigan's northern or uppper peninsula, famed for being a kind of backwoods flannel-wearing place). The actual discussion was very interesting. I learned that Kuan Yin actually started as a male Boddhisattva, but the Chinese sort of turned him into a Goddess over the years.

And I hope you mean orange sauce rather than organ sauce. Slow day today other than going to see a movie tonight and having dinner at IHOP. We (my mother, my brother, and I) went with my best friend's youger brother because he happened to drop in. We saw Fifty First Dates. I'll post a review later. And when you go to IHOP, don't order a sandwich or dinner. Go with the pancakes. I ordered a philly cheese steak sandwich and it wasn't awful, but it was not the greatest philly cheese steak sandwich in the known universe.

August 17, 2004
Two updates: 1) I've got a job at Burger King. I've worked for five days so far. They put me in the kitchen making burgers, which is a bit harder and more stressful than I thought. It alternates between hurry up and wait boredom where nothing's happening to panic-attack inducing hurry when a few big orders come in at once.
Monday they had me doing landscaping work. They're opening a new location (acutally reopening an old one, but never mind), which is where I'm going to be working, but first they needed some landscaping work. I spent the day shovelling mulch and rocks into a wheelbarrow, which is a bit rough on the back for someone not used to it.
2) This is a slightly smaller update. I'm back at my dad's apartment rather than my mom's trailer, which means I don't have regular internet access. So my sporadic checking in will be even more sporadic.

Odin's Day Sap Timber 15, 2004
They have mostly changed my position to back cash, the person at the first drive through window who collects the money. Our system is slightly screwy. The person at the front window who hands out the food is also the one that actually takes the order and punches it in to the cash register at the front window. Then I push a button on my cash register and get the total and a display of what was order, so I can hand out napkins, collect money and ask if they want ketchup or salt. You with me so far? The thing that makes this screwy is that fairly often (I'd say about three times a night) a driver will get to my window and remember that he wanted one more cheeseburger or whatever, and then I will have to page the person at the front window on my headset and then the person at the front window punches in the next item as a new order that has to be added to the previous order.
Another Saturday Night and I Ain't got Nobody, I got some money cause I just got paid. Now how I wish I had someone to talk to. I'm in an awful way. -Sam Cooke
Why the Sam Cooke quote? It describes my most recent Saturday. I had a paycheck to cash and made a run to the used bookstore and the Barnes and Noble. I saw Alicia there again and chickened out of asking her for her phone number again.
