He immediately saw a squad of Dretches in there.

The squad of Dretches is formed into two lines; the first is armed with shortswords and small shields drawn, the second is armed with light crossbows.

Positioned so, the Drethces effectively block the corridor.

What worried Rill far more then Dretches, however...

...Is a huge figure that towers over the Dretches.

The figure is apparently male, and he is over sixteen feet tall. His head slightly resemble that of a hound, but with bronzed skin instead of fur and gleaming purple eyes. The figure has two pairs of arms; the lower and smaller ones end in normal even if somewhat clawned hands, while the huge upper ones end in powerful pincers. The figure is dressed in dark metalic armor, not as heavy as that worn by Hezrou troopers whom Rill has encountered earlier, but still protecting all the vital parts of its owner's body. The figure is extremely muscular even for his huge size, and Rill realizes that should he fight this one, he'll be better off if he avoids being hit at all. As if the figure's powerful pincers were not enough, he carries a huge two-bladed sword upon his left hip and an equally huge heavy crossbow behind his beck.

Worst of all, as a veteran of Blood War, Rill easily recognized the creature as Glabrezu, a very powerful kind of demon and one of Tanar'ri, and realized that in addition to physical prowess this figure possess impressive magical abilities, including the ability to stun lesser foes with a single Word of Power.

"You fought well, Major Nirenn," the Glabrezu says, surprisingly with a hint of respect in his deep voice. "Sergeant Gharsis is a capable warrior, for a Hezrou, of course, but you fought him as an equal. However, as you certainly realize, the battle is over now. Surrender youself, Major Nirenn, and you may find that your life is far from being over. "

Rill stands up, still keeping his back to the wall, and looks towards the glabrezu.
I am not so naive as to believe that there is no another way out of this. As you undoubtedly already know, I have already endured ten years of korachon torture without saying a word, so whatever methods you may devise would likely prove futile. I could just try to kill you, but the sheer folly of that is more than evident. However, I am also a very important and powerful person who might prove useful to your cause in one way or another. I am willing to negotiate my surrender. What can you offer me?

”Unfortunately for you, whether you wish it or no, your fate is now in the hands of General Ashwand, the commander of this fortress whom you and your companions tried to assassinate. I can guarantee you little but safe passage to General Ashwand so that you could negotiate your future fate with him. I am quite certain, however, that General Ashwand will welcome a skillful warrior and able commander to join his cause… On a paid basis, of course. We know you are a mercenary, not someone who would fight for his ideals alone. Under certain circumstances, the terms of your safe return back to your division, what’s left of it anyway, may also be negotiable, I believe, although naturally it will be up to General Ashwand to say the final word in this matter. I must warn you, however, that General Ashwand is fully on his guard at the moment, so don’t think that you may sacrifice your life to take him from this plane of existence with you; this way you will only throw your life away without archiving anything. Now if you are interested in cooperating, you will be given back your weapons and taken to General Ashwand.”

Being rather polite, especially for a demon, the Glabrezu don’t mention what will happen if Rill refuses to cooperate.

Then take me to him. said Rill adamantly, flipping his axe over and replacing it into the scabbard on his back.

The Glabrezu just stood silent for a several seconds…

…And then Rill noticed Sergeant Gharsis, who stepped towards him, handing him his battleaxe hilt first.

”Your other weapon.” the Glabrezu stated, apparently offering Rill to take it back. ”But don’t even try to use it; you are in our custody now, and any lack of cooperation will be punished with death, either immediate or slow, but in either case – certain.”
