”You were with Lord Edhelorn Serethorn just before his final battle against the half-demon wizard Alcarius, the one who killed the previous Lord Serethorn some four Oerthian years ago, weren’t you, Major Nirren? Just wondering, what made you abandon Lord Edhelorn Serethorn just before the final battle?”

And as if to answer Glabrezu’s question, the unbidden memories came to Rill…

The man forgot his place as a servant and perverted his place as a ruler. He betrayed his lords and led his men to a suicide mission. His understanding of strategy was poor, made up for only by his ego. answered Rill, barely hesitating to answer the question I might've docked it off to gallantry, but he was not such a man. To simply stand by and be a party to such a massacre was a waste of my talent and the lives of his men. I had no pity for Lord Serethorn, but I could not let his troops die painfully and without honor in a battle of attrition, so I provided them with clean deaths: the best that they could hope for.

”I see” Glabrezu spoke from behind Rill. "You said you’ve provided those of Serethorn Family Guard with clean deaths, don’t you? How strange… You see, I have heard Lord Edhelorn Serethorn’s side of the tale, but I have never heard this part… Perhaps, you would tell me YOUR side of the tale, while we are walking?"

What I have left out is quite simple. The strategy I had formulated the previous week involved several strafing movements along the castle's perimeter with mounted archers. In annoying the castle's defenders, it would allow enough time to bring in whatever infantry and mock seige artillery we had to make an assault on the castle. The attack was programmed to make it look like the army was attacking the castle's walls with little regard to itself, which was true, for the most part. When the guard commander realized that it would be far easier to simply engage the attachers on the ground and sent his troops out, our cavalry would make another flanking run across the castle, distracting him momentarily while the commandos slipped past the defenses. The problem with that strategy was that every man on the field would die, but the nature of their deaths would be very, very slow, as the defending guard would most likely aim to debilitate the attackers before finishing them off. said Rill, very stoically Before I left, I modified the plan slightly to spread out the infantry along the main wall, which, though it would allow for easy cleanup from the guard commander's army, would expose the mounted archers, and thus foil the plan. The guard commander would have most likely moved his infantry to the walls and guard towers and let them take care of it as the attackers scaled the walls. This would mean that each man who climbed the walls would be cut down by the defenders outright, and not simply injured and left to die of bleeding. I would have them die while storming the castle, and not while on the battlefield, waiting for a chance at valor that would never come.
I was not around long enough to see the outcome of the battle, nor was I around to hear of it. However, I am content in knowing that I did what I could. he finished

I am terribly sorry for such a huge delay, EK! Gomen nasai, please forgive me!
Unfortunately, I needed to decide some things, more precisely, how to combine what Rill told Gin’Khan with some things that happened in the past, things that neither you nor Rill knows about. And there were other matters that kept me occupied too…
Well, at least now I’ve finally decided on the course the situation with Rill is going to take, and I’ll proceed to make the next posts for Gin’Khan right now.

Though it was actually a somewhat strange and alien sound, Rill easily recognized it as demonic laughter.

”Ah, very good, Major Nirenn!” Glabrezu spoke finally, with an obvious delight in his powerful voice. ”With a mind such as this, it’s strange that you haven’t joined our cause yet! Well, there is eternity ahead of us, some of us, so… But I must tell you, Major Nirenn, that your plan seemed to fail, for whatever reason, I do not know. A pity… Or maybe not much of a pity, considering how everything has turned out. But let’s leave it for the future; should you choose to join our cause, and I am sure you will, you will be told more of the story sooner or later. For now, I’ll just say that foundation for something great has been laid there on that day.”

[OOC:]
Unless Rill will say or do something else, he and his escort will proceed to Leiton Ashwand’s inner sanctum. So, if you choose for Rill to say or do something else, EK, please post Rill’s speech and/or actions in “Infiltrating the Enemy Fortress” game thread. If you would prefer for Rill to proceed silently into Ashwand’s inner sanctum, EK please state so in your post in either “Infiltrating the Enemy Fortress” game thread or “Infiltrating the Enemy Fortress – Brainstorm trd.”
