[glow=maroon,10,000]”Your service will be rewarded, naturally.”[/glow] The figure upon the throne continued. [glow=maroon,10,000]”Wealth, power, an army to command… And in time, a chance to have your revenge against those who wronged you in the past and made an attempt to use you in the present. But as for now…”[/glow]

[glow=maroon,10,000]”You are most welcome, Rill, most welcome!"[/glow] The figure upon the throne said. [glow=maroon,10,000]”As about your mission… I am not in need for your services at the moment, but I still have a mission for you in mind. This isn’t something that needs to be done, but rather a reward I wish for you to have. About a month ago, one of my servants discovered a young red dragon who dwells in Lortmils. He attempted to bargain with the dragon for her services, but despite my expectations, he proved to be both weak and foolish, and was killed by the dragon in a result of unsuccessful bargaining, with most of the troops I gave him, I must add. But you, Rill, are a different story. I know that you have some experience in dealing with powerful beings, and you will not repeat my foolish servant’s mistakes. I wish for you to go there, and strike a bargain with this red dragon; if she can be persuaded to join our side, she will serve you as a powerful aerial mount and will be of major advantage in many battles to come. While dealing with her, however, you should remember to deal from position of both respect and strength; don’t show even a sign of weakness, but don’t show any superiority either. Red dragons are proud creatures, and any attempt to threat her or act as her superior will doubtless end in violence. Instead, you should act as if you are asking for her assistance as an equal, and of course, make it worth her while to aid you. I will instruct Leiton Ashwand to give you some gold and a several magic items to use for bargaining; these are things we have in plenty, and you may to with what will be left after the bargaining as you see fit. And should the dragon require more then gold and magic items… There are still quite a few grey elven towns yet untouched by our forces, and each of them will suit nicely to satisfy your companion’s thirst for blood, destruction and fresh meat. The elves’ doom was sealed when they betrayed me anyway, so don’t feel bad about slaughtering them like spineless cowards that they are! So… Do you have any question to ask of me, or your old companions, Rill?”[/glow]

Rill only half-listened, not liking being told how to do a job that he had mastered decades ago. When the creature was finished, Rill nodded his head in approval of the plan.
I will do as you ask, but I would like to make one request. Though I forsee no problems in dealing with the dragon, if it decides to fight me outright, or unleashes some sort of trap or ambush, it might get very problematic. If you would see fit to grant me a vassal or two who would serve as an extra pair of eyes and as a backup plan, I would be of better use to you.

[glow=maroon,10,000]”A Vrock named Drazeel is the only one of Temir’s squad who survived the dragon’s attack.”[/glow] The figure upon the throne said. [glow=maroon,10,000]”He will guide you to the dragon’s lair and will also provide you with his assistance should the dragon be hostile; in short, he will be yours to command as you see fit. Drazeel is a warrior of some skill, and while his power isn’t truly a match against that of a red dragon, even a young one, should the difficulties arise, his assistance should be enough to make a difference between victory or defeat for you.”[/glow]

The figure upon the throne thinks for a moment, and then continues, [glow=maroon,10,000]”There is also one more thing I can think of, which would ensure that you would have to worry far less about the dragon’s possible treachery, now and forever more… A permanent power, which I will grant to you, but only if you are willing to accept the price. If you wish for such a power, I could ignite fires in your blood, which would make you invulnerable to fire and heat, and will also provide a significant protection against cold. There will be price, however, no power comes without one. Should you betray me, Rill, the fires I planted in your body will burst free… You will be destroyed once and for all, Rill. The choice is yours, Rill, but remember, that should you betray me, I will remind you that there are things far worse then death. I have given you the second chance, Rill, but there won’t be a third one. Chose wisely, Rill, this power may be a gateway for many others to come should you serve me loyally, or a certain and painful end should you betray me. So… Do you wish to have such power?”[/glow]

Rill paused a moment before shifting his weight across his feet and resting a hand on his hip.
If I bind myself to you, milord, I will become less of a servant. My relationship with you would be based on obligation instead of the respect I have for you. Obligation creates a power structure, and such structures breed hatred. I'm sure that you understand this better than I do. he said, humbly but proudly As such, I will accept Drazeel's service, but I respectfully decline your gift.

[glow=maroon,10,000]”As you would have it.”[/glow] The figure upon the throne says, and Rill can distinguish a clear displeasure in the figure’s voice. [glow=maroon,10,000]”But remember, Rill, though there will be other rewards in store for you, if you wish to accept the gifts of power I am willing to offer, this is something you will have to go through sooner or later; the sooner you accept my superiority, the sooner you will gain access to powers beyond that of any mortal. Still, the choice will always be yours, as it was now…”[/glow]

[glow=maroon,10,000]”…And also remember, Rill, that we are already bonded, as you certainly realizes. Should you betray me, I will know of it immediately, and then, you will regret ever declining my offer; an instant death may look favourable comparing to some other fates you may suffer for your betrayal. Now sleep, Rill… The journey is waiting for you tomorrow…”[/glow]
