Rill stands before Ashwand, barely glancing at the Vrock, but otherwise silently trying to declare his presence.

…Leiton Ashwand mutters, seemingly to himself, ”Yes, thirty more spell levels can be absorbed, ten spell levels available for use, this will do well enough.”

With that, Leiton Ashwand laid the rod he held upon the table beside himself…

…And Rill, who now came closely, can see that the rod appears to be made of adamantine.

Afterwards, Leiton Ashwand rises his eyes to meet Rill, who now stands before him, and says, “Ah, Major Nirenn, I see you joined us, at last. I am to provide you with some assistance on your mission, but before that, I have some information I would like to share, and perhaps you will also have some information to share with me. You see, I interrogated the prisoner Sir Gin’Khan brought in yesterday. But unfortunately, the creature was obviously enspelled to die before it revealed any information of importance…Very strange, I checked the creature before interrogated it, but detected no enchantments of this sort; and no matter how powerful they were, they couldn’t possibly escape my detection… Never mind. Anyway, I believe I said that the creature was obviously enspelled to die before it revealed any information of importance. But one important piece of information has been learned, however, before the creature died. A name of one of our enemies, the one whom this creature served – Marance Talendar. The creature mentioned that he works for some greater power, but unfortunately, it died before revealing anything about this power. But it seems to me that this power is certainly of Baatorian origin. Aside from that, the creature mentioned this Marance is supposed to be a mage of some power, and supposedly, some renown upon the Planes, including the planar metropolis of Sigil. I believe, Major Nirenn, that you are something of a planeswalker yourself, aren’t you? Did you hear anything about this Marance Talendar in your journey throughout the Planes?”

I do not know the name. I am more a resident of the Astral and the Outlands than Sigil or the rest of the Planes. replied Nirenn

”Would you be able to find more about him, I wonder?..” Leiton Ashwand mused, then unexpectedly added, ”…Oh, never mind that, you have a mission of a different sort at the moment, and we have other sources of information. We will deal with the mage and whatever power he serves in good time.”

Leiton Ashwand paused, and then continued, ”Oh, yes, I’ve almost forgot the main reason you are here, Major Nirenn. Of course, you are here for extra information about your mission, as well as for some gold and magic items for bargaining with your dragon. Let me start with the later. First of all, here…” Leiton Ashwand took what appears to be an ordinary belt pouch from his belt and handed it to Rill, ”…This pouch is magical, and despite its size, it can hold a large amount of coins, gems and other small items. Don’t try to put anything larger then a small gem into this pouch, though, this will destroy it along with anything inside. Currently, this pouch holds fifteen thousands of gold coins, of many different nations, though all are equal in weight and value. More then enough to stratify your dragon’s greed, I hope. If your dragon will ask some magic items for her services as well, you can take these…” Leiton Ashwand waved his hand in the direction of the table and a rod and two light maces lying upon it, ”I have chosen these three rods from my personal treasury, and I believe that your dragon will find them useful as well as valuable. The first one…” Leiton Ashwand gestures towards the adamantine rod that he was inspecting when Rill arrived, ”…Is a Rod of Absorption, a powerful magic item, I am certain you at least heard of. This particular rod can absorb thirty more spell levels, and it currently has ten previously absorbed spell levels available for using. More then enough, I believe. The second one…” Leiton Ashwand gestures towards what looks more like a simple light mace then a rod, ”…Is what they call a “Rod of Alertness”, I doubt you heard of it, but its uses are just too many to list. Suffice to say that its primary use it detection of hostile creature nearby, other then that, you or your dragon will have to find it out on your own. I don’t have extra time to do identification myself and then to explain all its multiple qualities, you know. Anyway, the last one…” Leiton Ashwand gestures toward the second light mace, which upon closer inspection, looks more like a jeweled scepter then a mace, ”…Is a Rod of Lordly Might, another item I am quite certain you heard of, and hopefully, your dragon heard of it as well. As you probably know, by operating the buttons upon this weapon’s hilt, you can either change this weapon’s form, a flaming longsword is the only other form I can remember, or use this weapon’s special abilities, a Hold Person spell is one of them, I believe. Anyway, I offered to provide you with gold and a few items, not to be your personal sage, so if you wish to learn more, you can do all the identification yourself. Or just leave it to your dragon, if she cares at all what magic items grace her hoard, that’s it.”

This will be sufficient, Lord Ashwand said Rill, collecting the items I'd also like to request whatever information you'd be willing to provide about this dragon; its history, conquests, children, anything that might be of use.

”Yes, of course.” Leiton Ashwand replied. ”Well, next to nothing is known about this dragon, actually. Drazeel, our friend here…” Leiton Ashwand gestured towards the Vrock, who still stood silently in the corner of the room, ”…Says that dragon is “she”. From what little he could tell me… He has chosen to flee from combat as soon as his master fell, by the way. Courage just isn’t one of his virtues, though common sense certainly is… So, where was I? Oh yes, so from what little Drazeel could tell me, I gathered that this particular dragon is rather young, though she is still very dangerous. At least, Stormlord Temir, one of Our Lord’s late servants, was supposed to be moderately powerful, yet the dragon killed him before he could utter a single spell. Oh, and she is a Red Dragon, by the way, if you haven’t already been told that. That’s all I can tell you about this dragon. Never dealt with dragons myself, other then in combat, that’s it, so I cannot give you much of an advice about bargaining and such. You’ll just have to appease her with gold and magic items, I suppose, just like any mercenary, even if a very costly one. But what I’ve given you will be more then enough, I am thinking. Oh, and Drazeel will lead you to the dragon’s lair, as well as do whatever else you ask of him. There is no need to worry about his cowardice or treacherousness, by the way, for his fate is directly tied with your survival. If you happen to die for whatever reason, Drazeel will surely find himself wishing that he died trying to protect you very very soon… There are fates worse then death, you know, even for a Demon. So… Do you have any more questions, Major Nirenn?”

Seeing that Ashwand was not likely to provide more information, Rill gives him a nod.
Excellent, milord. Unless you need me to begin immediately, I would like to have a day to prepare.

”You are now under Our Lord’s direct command, Major Nirenn, not mine.” Leiton Ashwand answered. ”Either way, I was told nothing about time limits, only that I am to provide you with information and whatever resources I can spare. So, enjoy the hospitality of my fortress as long as you wish, unless Our Lord commands you otherwise. It is not wise to anger him. Summon Des’starria whenever you need anything, she will act as your personal servant and guide around the fortress as long as you are staying here. She will also sent for Drazeel and prepare everything else for your journey, just tell her when you are ready. Oh, and I suggest that you have Des’starria serve you food in your room; I don’t think you would find eating with my soldiers a pleasant experience, if you know what I mean. And now, I have other businesses I have to attend to.”

After saying so, Leiton Ashwand stands up and exits the room through the door, other then that through Rill entered, and closes the door behind himself. Rill could see only as much as the beginning of some corridor behind the door.
