Heh, okay. You guys may have to give me a couple raps on the knuckles, then. I tend to make things more complicated than they need to be, probably because I'm used to working with computers and my thought process goes more towards "make it realistic" than "make it simple." Don't be afraid to slap me around when I start cluttering things up.

Okay, it looks like seven people is all we're gonna get for now. We should probably talk a little about what sort of world/system we want to build. Here's some questions we need to answer: - What system?
- I suggest we make our own, something based around the play-by-post style, as I mentioned before.
- What time period?
- We've had suggestions for a medieval time period, and that's okay with me. But if we do make up our own system I suggest that while we might make up one setting for it that the system be flexible enough to conform to multiple settings, like GURPS or D20.
- What mood/theme?
- I'd go for something dark, a world where the characters would often find themselves facing moral dilemmas or working from the shadows.

Like a fantasy/medieval Shadowrun game. I always did like Shadowrun, had an orc cyberdecker/ mage once.

I'd go for that. I never played Shadowrun but it always looked interesting.
I think whatever we do we should try to stay away from using copyrighted resources (like taking too many ideas from Shadowrun material). We are doing this for fun and I don't think we'll make any money on it, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Besides, if we make up a really good system/world it might be fun to see if we can toss it around the 'net and get other gaming boards to use the system. It prolly won't happen, but if it does we won't have to worry about suits breathing down our necks about copyright infrigement. Even if we're not making money off of something companies can get really upset over unliscenced use of their material.

Okay, I'm going to officially request a board so we can get going creating this system/world. What should we call it? It's kinda hard to make up a name when we don't even know what our world's gonna look like yet, so I was thinking something sorta generic like "The Shadow World Project" ("Shadow" for "Shadow of the Dragon") or "Work In Progress." Any ideas? (Input would be nice here, folks. I wanna get as many people involved as possible, and we might as well start with the forum name. )

Shadow World sounds good. Hey, we might even be able to market it at some point ^_^

Your wish is my command. The official project board has been created and can be found in the GM tools section above the PBM section.
I look forward to seeing your results.
I'd like to participate when I can, but, unfortunately, the baby and work are keeping me pretty busy. I'll poke my nose in when I can though, if that's ok.
My 2 cents would be to make the game world d20 compatible. Then you are not running into copyright issues since most of d20 is OGL anyway. Not necessarily DnD, but use the d20 rules set as a base. That way everyone can be drawing from the same page.
