The Protectorate of Castelry RockBasic description:www.nationstates.net/cgi-bin/index.cgi/target=display_nation/nation=castelry_rockMap:www.angelfire.com/az3/castelry_rock/Map_of_Castelry_Rock.htmlNOTE: Only the main roads, hills, rivers and forests were marked on this map. Also, most villages and some smaller towns weren’t marked on this map.
Currently ruled by: His Majesty, King-Protector Jaime Lannister, the First of His Name, Lion of Lannister, Lord of Castelry Rock, Shield of Lannisport
Population: 6 milion
Government: the government consists of noble lords with King-Protector as an absolute authority over them. All titles are hereditary, and thus elections are non-existing.
Lannister line endured as Castelry Rock’s royal family throughout the nation’s existence; and most of its kings proved themselves intelligent, but somewhat cruel rulers. Lannisters are known for their conservatism and occasional incestuous behavior; in case with latter, the current King-Protector is not an exception, for he took his twin sister as his wife.
Military: for a nation of its size, Castelry Rock has a moderately large army; although its training is bellow average, and equipment is even on the worse level.
Castelry Rock’s infantry forces are numerous and trained better then any other branches of its army, but poor equipment still puts their combat performance bellow average level. They are currently using pistols and non-automatic rifles; and don’t have any heavy weapons in their disposal.
Castelry Rock’s navy slightly supress Castelry Rock’s infantry forces in strength; it consists of a moderately small fleet of patrol frigates and a single “Sea Lion” medium cruiser. The vessels’ design is on average level, but their crews lack both training and actual experience. Some experienced sailors from Earl Shilton and their sons have been recruited into Castelry Rock’s navy and sworn into service of Lord Leo Lefford of Lannisport.
Castelry Rock’s armored forces use “Lion” medium-heavy tank and “Leopard” armored recon car. Despite the proud names, both vehicles are poorly designed, losing to other vehicles of their class in armor and weaponry; their speed and maneuverability are average for the vehicles of their class. Currently, Castelry Rock’s armored forces get significantely less financing comparing to the other branches of Castelry Rock’s military.
Castelry Rock’s air forces are in poor shape, as they as Castelry Rock’s airplanes are few, and they would have been hopelessly outdated by the ones of almost any other nation, if only most other nation's air forces weren't in similary poor shape. However, due to the constant drills, Castelry Rock’s pilots are gaining skill, though somewhat slowly, as they lack skilled teachers. Landing accidents are still not unheard of, though they are not as frequent as they used to be.
Religion: the religion is all but outlawed in the Protectorate of Castelry Rock. The bad relations between the old religion and the royal family date centuries past, when the church openly declared the royal family’s incestuous habits ungodly. In response, the royal family outlawed the religion.
Those few priests who survived the following slaughter, escaped to the Constitutional Monarchy of Earl Shilton, seeking the refuge against their former king. Their beliefs are only slightly differ from Catholic, and their religion is currently known as Castelry Christianity.
Now, when centuries have passed, it is no longer a crime to be a priest or religious man in the Protectorate of Castelry Rock. However, few religious remain there; for they are still looked down upon by both nobles and commoners, and moreover most religions still find the royal family’s incestuous habits ungodly.
Environment: Castelry Rock’s environment is rich and mostly untouched by industry and technological progress, perhaps because neither is highly developed in Castelry Rock. Castelry Rock is situated on an ocean shore; and its lands range from mountains and hills to the north to forests and fertile plains to the south. Agriculture and fishing are thriving, and Castelry Rock’s many sorts of cheese are renowned throughout the neighboring nations. The forests are many, and Castelry Rock never had shortage of wood.
The Protectorate's enviroment, especially its woods, are currently in process of being ruined by mining industries.
Natural resources: the mountains in the north of Castelry Rock, in which the city-fortress of Castelry Rock itself is built, are very rich with gold. But the other metals, such as iron or copper are few, and Castelry Rock is forced to buy them from neighboring nations. Castelry Rock also has small deposits of oil and natural gas.
Recently, a large deposit of Uranium ore was discovered in the forest to the north from a large town of Green Heart, and that part of the forest is currently beign bulldozed by the mining industry in order to allow to begin the mining of Uranium ore.
Trade: Castelry Rock has trade relations with most, if not all, neighboring nations. King-Protectors rarely concern themselves with the matters of trade, preferring to allow the lords to handle the trade for their regions themselves. So far, Castelry Rock’s lords are known for doing their job well enough. Tariffs are moderately high, but Castelry Rock’s riches still attract many traders, both governmental and independent.
By the recent order of King-Protector Jaime Lannister the First, tarrifs on civilian automobile imports into the Protectorate of the Castelry Rock were increased by 25 percent.
Industry: while Castelry Rock’s economy and trade are well-above average level, its industry in much poorer shape. Castelry Rock solves part of their industrious problems by buying resources from neighboring nations, but its industrious technologies are even in worse shape then the military ones.
Technological progress: while the kings and lords of Castelry Rock always were expert traders, they have reputation of being quite conservative when it comes to new technologies. As the result, Castelry Rock is currently behind most other nations in respect of technological advancements.
There are rumors that the current King-Protector has been trying to fix this problem for years now, but the decades of looking down upon new inventions takes it toll, and Castelry Rock currently has almost no capable scientists.
Recently, there were some minor scientific breakthroughs in medicine field, but other then that, Castlery Rock made no significant scientific progress recently.
