The Sunderlands are a vast geographically diverse region of lands, comprising a loose collection of sovereign city-states. These mainly human cities each have their own economic systems and governments, but they share symbiotic relationships with their neighboring cities, being highly dependant on trade to survive. These cities have prospered recently, making jumps in development not only in the areas of commerce and government, but in academics and arts as well. In the past there have been squabbles, and even wars between cities, but civilization has managed to survive the ebb and flow, and grow in the process. During times of need, the cities will often put away there differences to raise the necessary armies to defend themselves. The ancient races live alongside the chaotic human race. They have been around for eons, and look upon the upstart human civilizations as a bit of a wonder, but understand the tenuous nature of their chaotic existence. They have ages old culture and precedent to follow, and their ancient homes are hidden in the thick heart of the forests, (elves) or buried deep in the heart of the mountains (dwarves), and so on. That is not to say that they do not participate in the growing commerce of the region. They mingle freely in many of the cities, even choosing to live amongst the humans. There are a few cities, where humans have grown to fear and despise the other races. These groups are militant and look down on interbreeding, often persecuting half-breed "mestizos"
