Hello, was wondering if there was any interest in a MechWarrior campaign set before the Clan invasion.
Sign up here if you'd like to play.

Yup, needless to say I am HIGHLY interested in joining this Mechwarrior RPG of yours, Shadowdragon, especially since I am quite a fan of BattleTech/Mechwarrior, and moreover, I always wished to play under your DMing!
This game’s being set prior to Clan invasion is (IMHO) also very interesting – I like struggles between houses and lack/rarity of some overpowering technologies (although I’d be a liar if I’d say that I won’t miss some of it).
Anyway, there are a several questions I would like to ask of you, Shadowdragon…
1) At approximately what year will the game start? Apart from being prior to Clan invasion, I am interested whether the game will be prior/afterwards creation of Federated Commonwealth (i.e. if Federated Suns and Lyran Alliance/Commonwealth are already united into one or no)?
2) Who the players will be supposed to be (independent mercenaries, leaders of their own mercenary units, regular soldiers of one realm or fraction or military officers within that realm or fraction)?
2.5) What specialization(s) are appropriate (i.e. whether the characters are supposed to be Mechwarriors or if some other roles [such as Special Forces troopers, Spies/Agents, vehicle crewmen, spacers, aerospace pilots and so on…] will be equally appropriate)?
3) Will the game be more tactics-orientated (like Galadon’s BattleTech game is), or if it will be more role-playing/independent action–orientated?
4) Will the game be a completely freeform one, or if some elements from BattleTech board game and/or Mechwarrrior RPG will be used?
As about my character (2 and 2.5), I am thinking about playing an independent mercenary Mechwarrior (ex-Federated Suns/Federated Commonwealth solider, most likely), as this is a role I rather enjoyed the last (and only) time I played Mechwarrior RPG. Then again, I will probably choose some other role for the curiosity’s shake! And besides, I am going to use Mechwarrior character creation system (whether it is required or no), and so, quite a lot will depend on a roll of a die!
P.S.
By the way, do you have Mechwarrior character creation system, Shadowdragon? Because I don’t have certain parts of the character creation rules (most notably, about assigning attributes), and if you have them, I would greatly appreciate if you provide me with them, if it is possible.

Apart from being prior to Clan invasion, I am interested whether the game will be prior/afterwards creation of Federated Commonwealth (i.e. if Federated Suns and Lyran Alliance/Commonwealth are already united into one or no)? Shortly after the Fed Suns and the Lyran Commonwealth joined together. 2) Who the players will be supposed to be (independent mercenaries, leaders of their own mercenary units, regular soldiers of one realm or fraction or military officers within that realm or fraction)? The characters will be the members of a small merc unit (designed by me) ANY character type will be possible. I haven't decided on which house will hold the Merc Contract yet. The players (depending on the number) will be members of the same Lance (if all are Mech Warriors) or at least members of the same Company (if there are different occupations chosen.)2.5) What specialization(s) are appropriate (i.e. whether the characters are supposed to be Mechwarriors or if some other roles [such as Special Forces troopers, Spies/Agents, vehicle crewmen, spacers, aerospace pilots and so on…] will be equally appropriate)? See above3) Will the game be more tactics-orientated (like Galadon’s BattleTech game is), or if it will be more role-playing/independent action–orientated? Action out of Mechs will be full on MechWarrior Roleplay, In Mech/Vehicle action will be combined BTBoard rules with MW skills in place4) Will the game be a completely freeform one, or if some elements from BattleTech board game and/or Mechwarrrior RPG will be used? All rules will be in play. We'll worry about the die rolling aspect when it comes down to it.As about my character (2 and 2.5), I am thinking about playing an independent mercenary Mechwarrior (ex-Federated Suns/Federated Commonwealth solider, most likely), as this is a role I rather enjoyed the last (and only) time I played Mechwarrior RPG. I will be posting character construction rules very soon. (I need to get them typed up and ready for the web. Then you can either choose a template (ready made character) or design your own using the proper rules sets. This will be my first attempt to run this game online, so bear with me if it goes a little slow at first. It's been awhile since I've gotten to play and so I kinda jumped at the chance to do this here. This will also be my first roleplay to be run on the new board. Yes, a new board has been set up and is being tweaked right now. It's located at Shadow of the Dragon Gaming Community and it is being run off of a private server (Ad free for now). The official open date for this forum is Feb 1, 2005 although you might notice some of the Mods have been there for a bit longer than that. If you'd like to go over and set up your account now, feel free to do so, just don't expect everything to be the same the next time you log in.

Wow, that's SO wonderful! And I thought that I've finally found a stabile forum for myself... Why do I suddenly feel an urge to return to ol' PlanetAD&D (something I thought will never happen), or better yet, ol' good pen-and-paper RPGs??? [/Sarcasm:]Alright. To make a long story short, Shadowdragon, I have no intention of moving into a new forum (call me conservative if you like), and therefore, I fear I will be unable to participate in this MechWarrior campaign of yours. And if you decide to shut Shadow of the Dragon Gaming Forum down, I guess it will be a return to either ol' PlanetAD&D or pen-and-paper gaming for me...

Actually the change has been in the works for some time. I would have preferred to have had a private server for the forum from the beginning. The new board will have options not available here: - Your choice of interface (skin) There are 13 different skins to choose from (Including 2 based on Jedi Knights, a Star Trek, and a Stargate skin)
- There will be less of a restriction on "adult oriented" topics (which will help a certain DM and his online campaign set in a city of sin and depravity)
- There are other modifications available that can't be done here
- There is also no character count limit (as the 10,000 character max here)
These are only a few of the reasons it's been in the works. It's actually been up and running for awhile, while I worked on some tweaks. There is more I plan to do with it, but it is pretty much ready to accept posts (as I believe you found out already ETM.) Anyway, good gaming to all on both forums.

By the way, while BRO will definately spend most of his online time in the old forum (where his "Oerth and Beyond" online campaign is going to remain), he will also join the new forum as well, and will most likely participate in Shadowdragon's MechWarrior campaign in there (unless some unforeseen difficulty will arise).

don't worry too much about lack of knowledge unless your charecters from Comstar he's not going to know everything anyway Challenger Thanks, Challenger! But actually, when you don’t remember some of the basic things, it can get troublesome, not to mention embarrassing. Well, at least I have some MechWarrior/BattleTech information saved on my PC at home, so I can easily access it when needed. It may be not much, but at least, it is something.
