Apparently my account is in danger of deletion if I keep lurking, so. . . here I am!
I'm not too good at the whole introduction thing, so I guess I'll leave it at that.

Saying hi is enough, although some like to let everyone know a bit about their gaming experiences.
Anyway. Hello and welcome.

No biting, eh? I'll try not to hold that against you. As for my gaming experience, I've been playing D&D (2nd and 3rd editions) off and on for about five years with friends. I've DM'd on a number of occasions and currently have a campaign setting in the works, though I'm without a playgroup at the moment. My setting preferences are a bit different from most players I've encountered. I prefer low-magic campaigns (like, first permanent magic item around level 4) where the average NPC level isn't insanely high. Also, something bothers me about the arcane/divine magic division, though I haven't found a workable solution to replace it. I rather like psionics (the 2nd edition version, anyway; haven't seen the 3rd ed. book yet) but I'm not convinced that it meshes very well with the overall atmosphere of the game. Anyway, I'm rambling. I'll post more as it comes to me.

Welcome to the Shadow, Istari! There are a few people here who apreciate low-magic campaigns, maybe when you get your campaign world up and running you could start a game here, I'm sure you'd find enough people to get a game going.

Greetings and Welcome, Rogue Istari! I am glad, that you stopped lurking and embraced this World of Shadow of the Dragon fully! Lurking is fine, but posting is so much more fun, and I hope, that you will find it out soon!

There are a few people here who apreciate low-magic campaigns, maybe when you get your campaign world up and running you could start a game here, I'm sure you'd find enough people to get a game going. I'm pretty wary of play-by-email sorts of stuff, but I'd be glad to share any of my so far skeletal campaign material. I want all of my players to have access to all of the setting information, so I do all of my work in HTML. The coolest part, in my opinion, is the clickable map I made; all map locations can be clicked to bring up cross-referencing descriptions. Pretty nifty, in my obviously biased opinion.

Ooh, the map sounds fun! PBMB (play by message board) games aren't too different from normal live D&D except that they're much slower. Some DMs allow their players to even roll their own dice (though most I've seen either roll the dice for the players or use a dice-emailer to stop the occassional "doh a 1?? but this is too important to botch... I'll just roll again, just this once" that we're all guilty of ). If you're without a group (like I am) it's a great way to keep gaming. If you haven't tried it before you should give it a go, and if you still don't like it, then at least you can say you've tried it.

I admit, PBMB does sound interesting, but I think I'd probably be better off if my first experience with it were as a player and not as a DM.
It looks like there are some going on in various forums on this board, so I might start lurking a bit in those.

There are tons of games going on here. There's the freeforms and then there are the games on the forums. Pop into any of them and take a look (ahem Mithril rocks ahem) and take a look. If you want to join in, drop a line to the Gamemaster and see. Some you can just jump in and some are already full. Poke around and find what you like.

And check out the DM advertising forum for games that are just beginning or are actively recruiting new players when/if you decide you want to give it a try.
