I was wondering in the AD&D line what was your favorate manual / book.
I have several favorates.
Greyhawk Adventures. Dungeoneers Survival Guide. Complet guide to the Dragonlance World. (GREAT BOOK)

Not too many for the AD&D1 line, however if I had to pick I would go with:
Manual of the Planes. ~ Written very well IMO.
As for AD&D2:
Iuz the Evil Marklands Ivid the Undying ... are all favs and definatly written well (inspired)
Also a fan of the Skills & Powers Book.

Never collected very many of the older books outside of the core books. Had PHB, DMG, MM1/2, FF, OA, UA. I suppose my favorite would have been Oriental Adventures.

In addition to the PH/DMG/ MM or MC
Manual of the Planes - didn't really use this much at first, so it rested in my shelf for about 10 years. But now I use it alot... it is superior to the Planescape-stuff, but requires an experienced DM to use.

Without any doubt, my favorites, the ones we use the most, are the Players Options: Spells and Magic, Skills and Powers and Combat and Tactics.
These three books took AD&D from a relatively good game to one unequaled in the business. They provided so much depth and diversity that you could make EXACTLY the character you envisioned (unless you were a power gamer who enhvisioned running Thor's bigger, nastier brother that is) and they made 2e combats so rich in detail and possibilities that there were never again the moans of "kobolds again!". EVERY combat became something that demanded your full attention and got your pulse racing. It made AD&D fun again.

I don't know if it made AD&D fun again, 'cus to be honest I always thought it was fun. But it did add just enough of that "something" to improve the game on many levels. It was fun because in a way, it was almost like playing a new, yet familiar game.

I don't have any 1st ed books, but out of 2nd ed I would have to go with the Tome of Magic, it gave me my all time favorite mage. The Wild Mage. They are FUN!!!!!! ;D ;D

I get the most use out of "Creative Campaigning", "The Complete Book of Villains", and "Sages & Specialists".
Between those 3 books you've got enough guidelines, ideas, and material to keep imagination in your campaign active at all times, and keep your setting alive enough for the players to visualize it easy.
