Alright me and a couple of buddies got together and are being run through the temple of elemental evil. The thing is after the blue dragon we have shown that we couldn't work together to save our asses. After half the party died (including my beloved female dwarf thief, but she did take out the blue dragon ) I want to figure out a few party and strategies to make sure we surivive (without using out of character knowledge). We were allowed characters from dnd (3.0 and 3.5, our choice) and arcana unearthed. Our party consists of the following for sure . A human unfettered (done as per an arabic dervish) A Elf Cleric (who is a real fop, but he's seriously good at what he does). Another Human Priest A Human Thief (my former partner in crime and a serious kick ass at what he does). A female winter witch (my new character) A human barberian. a human fighter/cleric of saint cuthbert a human wizard and one other to be decided later All characters are forth level as of present. Any ideas on how to get these wackos to survive and start working as a party?

Start small. One PC is responsible for one PC. Pair up in combat. Flanking is always good. Charging and tumbling work too. Use bull rush, trip and disarm maneuvers during the first combat round. Let the thief or lead (always a bad idea, but sneaky fellows tend to avoid things, unless the things are shiny). Let the clerics (and the witch) prep their spells together.

Alrighty, here's what I got so far.
Buddy system:
1. Human Unfettered and Human Rogue (Will and Chris Larkin)
2. Human wizard and human fighter cleric of st. Cuthbert (Fred and chris Godbeer)
3. yt sorceror/psychic warrior, Human Winter Witch and Elven Cleric (Jay, Chris C., and Derek)
Marching orders
........Rogue ...................Unfettered ........St. Cut ...................Human Wiz ........Witch ...................yt ........E. cleric
Basically spaced out so that no one single attack can strike us down.

As soon as you have some extra cash, hire as many spear carriers as you can. Depopulate local towns if you have to, but make sure you have as much cannon fodder as money can buy. That dungeon is a meat grinder if played properly, so have lots between you and the whirling spinning blades.
Also, SUMMONING!!. Make sure your finger wigglers, both arcane and divine are summoning stuff as fast as they can. Again, see above.
Don't bother splitting treasure and letting everyone buy their own stuff. Act together as a group at all times. Sure, maybe the fighter does without his new shiny breastplate for a while, but the thief just got goggles of darkvision so he is now a more effective scout. Get a wand of curing ASAP also. Scrolls and potions are your friends. Stock up and stock often. And use them as often as you want. Don't save them for later. Use 'em up and get some more.
Treat every encounter as serious and make plans for an assault AND retreat. Just because you think you can take the critter, you never know, and it's always best to be prepared. Control the speed of encounters. Your advantage is that the bad guys (hopefully) don't know you're coming. Use that surprise to your advantage and make sure that any combat doesn't spread beyond the immediate area, bringing in more combatants.
Hope that helps.

marching order sounds good so far.
Just keep it so that no one gets left behind (those with low init are not stranded when big bad guys appear - that has cost some lives in my campaign). Something like that is more likely to happen in a large party like yours. With the buddy system, 2 ppl can keep fighting for a while until others arrive to rescue. Good luck with the adventure!

The campaign has been restarted
after a certain dragon attack that blew away all the party, it is essentially consists of a whole new part
Myself (I had to retire the thief after he took a joy ride on a joy dragon) A 4th level air mephit The human unfettered (the only reoccuring character) A human psi-blade An elven wizard. A human palladin and one other to be decided.
So far we did the moat house pretty good now it's just a matter of waiting and seeing.
