Who do you think are the best movie actors and actresses still making movies today? (Sorry, I'm limiting this to people who are still alive and still working) For actors IMHO, I would say either Johnny Depp or Kevin Spacey. Either one has amazing depth and range when they come on screen. For actresses, my hat goes off to Nicole Kidman, not because she is such a great actor, but, really there are so few good female leads right now, that her's is the only name that comes to mind.
What do you all think?

I think Sean Penn is excellent and I don't think he gets the credit he deserves. He really gets into his character role he plays. I don't care for Johnny Depp much (although I do like some of his movies) but he's not your mainstream actor either. He gorgeous though! I like Meg Ryan and Sandra Bullock for female actressess. ;D

Sandra Bullock? Really? As a great actress? I always thought of her as kinda a bubblegum actress. No substance and nothing really there. Mostly she plays Romcom movies (with some exceptions). I like her, but I wouldn't call her a great actress.
Sean Penn I will agree with. Unfortuneately, he doesn't make that many movies.

For the actor: Tom Hanks. I used to hate this guy twenty years ago, but he won me over with the Phialdelphia Story and I've been a fan of his ever since.
For the actress: Gwyneth Paltrow. Even more than as Viola in "Shakespeare in Love", she impressed me as Lucy in "Moonlight and Valentino" and as Clementine in "Hard Eight" where she showed far more depth than the simplistic scripts were giving her.

Actors: Denzel Washington, Ewan MacGregor, Sean Connery (as long as he gets better roles)
Actresses: Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock (she just needs a better agent), Renee Zewelleger, Reese Witherspoon, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Queen Latifah (Chicago, anyone?!? ?Now she just needs to keep up the momentum!)

Tom Hanks (why didn't Road to Perdition win more Oscars?), Eric Bana (the Hulk was actually a very god movie; it just moved a bit slowly), Ben Aflek (Dare Devil was also quite good)
Kate Winslet, Sigourney Weaver

Viggo Mortgenson (Lord Of The Rings, The Perfect Murder)
Angelina Jolie (Tomb Raider, Life Or Something Like It)
Halle Berry (Gothika, X-men, 007: Die Another Day)
Are probably my three favorites. They haven't done any movies I just didn't like at all (with exception to Monster's Ball).

You didn't like Monster's Ball? That was an excellent movie and certainly Barre's best role ever.
I'm a little surprised that Cameron Diaz hasn't come up. Her role in Gangs of New York was excellent. She has really come a long way from the "just a pretty face" actress she started out as.
