Just a point about France making so much money off of Iraq. A lot of air time has gone out about this. What hasn't been mentioned is that France called at least three seperate times for stronger sanctions against Iraq. Sanctions that were vetoed each time by America.
The thing is, at least in my opinion, it's not that people are watching for every little mistake. When Clinton was president and all you saw on American TV was the Monica Lewinsky and Whitewater stuff, in the rest of the world, no one cared. Most of the people I talked to couldn't even understand why it was an issue. The president has a mistress? Really? What's your point?
Even after 9/11, lets not forget that the entire world for the most part supported America's invasion of Afghanistan. Why? Because it was the right thing to do at the time. Most countries, including France, Germany, Russia and China have gotten on board with the anti-terror campaigns led by America. Why? Because, again, it is a (arguably) good thing. People perceive these acts as justified.
The invasion of Iraq, on the other hand, simply looks like an American President trying to use his power. Iraq wasn't bothering anyone. It hadn't done anything for ten years and certainly didn't look like it was in any position to be a threat. And, lets not forget, THERE ARE NO CHEMICAL WEAPONS!!! The primary reason for the invasion was a sham. The intelligence was so bad that the head of the CIA gets sacked. I have a lot of difficulty believing that. I have a lot of difficulty believing that the CIA, the NSA and the other branches are so incompetant as that. Why do people protest the invasion of Iraq? Because there is no justification for it. None.
