Do you belive that someone can be clinicly depressed? the reason i ask is because a friend and I had a argument over this. Some people belive that it is a real condition that requires medication and others belive it is controllable and based on prespective. Please give me your opinon and stae whether or not you think depression should be treated by medication.

Having lived with a manic depressive for two years, I have some understanding of the disease. It really is brutal. As for treatment, that varies greatly from person to person. For some it's Prozac, for others Zoloft or one of the host of other treatments. Some work, some don't, but, in some cases, medication is the best treatment.

I know someone can be clinically depressed, I myself am clinically depressed, well.... more like I am stable bi-polar that tends towards the depressed side. But the treatment, as Hussar stated, depends on the person. Medication, therapy, a good loving relationship and sometimes the persons will are all that are needed, it really just depends on the person.

Living with depression my entire life I just deal with it because I refuse to take drugs for it. But then again my depressin isn't that bad. Manic depression or Bi-polar requires drugs because they are extreme mood swings.

With some people depression is a Chemical inbalance in the brain, with some others its self induced and totally controlable.
I think it is possible to be Clinically Depressed. I know a few people that suffer from it and Hussar is right it is very brutal. I too have had bouts with depression we all have. Ime one of the lucky ones I just deal with it.
Others cant.

Well I have been very depressed at one point in my life and I thought I might need medication. It ended up being that I just needed lots of love. There are people who do have clinical depression, but there are just as many that have a kind of depression that might last a month and be gone. I'm just speaking from experience that I've been through.

Medication for the depressed?
In some cases it is very good thing - it helps you to get a grip of your life again. Sure, it's not a glorious way to live, but it beats that 'not managing to take a shower, never going out again' sort of life any day and twice on Sundays. Been there, done that. Of course, the medication helped me to tolerate the counseling (it took some weeks of my shrink's time to convince me of the necessity of therapy and medication - I was firmly against both).
No amount of medication is enough, if one doesn't realise and accept the existence of the reasons behind the depression. Sometimes, the medication can worsen the condition, and as things go, it's pretty much a guess (well, an educated one), which drugs will do you any good.
