I don't see why both parties, Republican and Demorats, are interested in cuddling, and trying to win over the independent vote. I would sugest they just forget them. What will happen between now and November that hasn't happen already. Is there some secret information they are waiting on to make up there mind.
That's why I don't understand, "Oh we can't offend the fence sitters, make sure the undecided are happy. Put the ads out, say what you want instead of being phony and cater to the "I can't decided." people. Oh the out of touch media will say the SWING vote will decide the election. Yeah right and the moon is made of green chesse.
Most of the independent, middle of the road, fence sitter, see how everyone else votes, most of the time will vote for a meaningless person anyways. The only two who will be decided on is Bush and Keary. everyone else is meaningless for president. By now both Republicans and Democrats voters have already decided. So why does both parties worry so much about a group of people who in all likey hood, won't matter.
One more thing. The president is elected by electoral college, NOT popular vote.

The president is elected by electoral college, NOT popular vote.
Which is why I find it hard to believe America can call itself democratic.

We are a "democratic republic", not a democracy. Which means we vote for people to vote for us (which was based on the assumption that the general populace is too dumb/uneducated to vote for themselves, which is a bad assuption, but hey, I didn't write the constitution).
And I can't recall where I heard it (some politics news show I was listening to), but out of our 50 states there are about 15 that are undecided. And those states are split so 45% is for Kerry, 45% is for Bush, and 10% is undecided. This is an incredibly close race. If one candidate or the other offends the undecideds then they're screwed. That tiny minority who haven't made up their minds will decide this election.

That tiny minority will most likely vote for whoever looks like they're winning. Herd mentality, and all.

America is every bit as democratic as pretty much any other country. Heck, we don't even vote for our Prime Minister, even indirectly. Our PM is CHOSEN, not elected, from the party that holds the most seats. How is that any more democratic than an electoral college?
Heck, the highest seat in Canada isn't even chosen by a Canadian. The Governor General is chosen by the Queen of England. At any time the GG can dissolve parliament and call an election. At any time the GG can strike down any law. This is still in the books.

The cold reality of the fact is true democracy died with ancient Greece.

Oh yeah, true democracy in Greece. Where you could only vote if you had land, were male, were born in the city in which you vote (since foreigners could not be granted citizenship) and had enough money to qualify. Oh yeah, that's democracy.
Friend, really, honestly, take a couple of poli sci classes and then come back and read what you're saying. It will truly be worth a laugh.
