*remembers topic again
Do we have anyone out there that plays the original Warhammer game? I have been interested in it for years, but I would like to see whether other people really liked it or got bored in a month...

I've been pplaying warhammer 40k for about 3 years now adn I'm still not bored with it... Although I wouldent suggest switching it unless you have a great army design... I am currently playing the least cheesy of the cheesy armies and I win frequently because of my unbeleivably good army design.
But this is how 40k is looking now: "Blood angel's thats pretty cheesy but they couldent come up with something cheesier then that." "Tau? 5 streangth 30 inch range? Thats cheesy but they wont come up with something cheesier then that." "Necron? They're like blood angel's only they get back up on a d6 roll of 4+? My god thats cheesy but they wont come up with somthing cheesyer then that."
And then Daemonhunters came out.
But warhammer fantasy is still looking great. I personaly Enjoy the dwarves. And trust me you dont get bored of it in a month... Every other army seems better then yours but don't stray... Come up with your great army then move on to another... DONT EVER STRAY!

Ah, but if I get involved I think I will really have to play the high elves... They just seem so incredibly cool when a vast army of troops wearing shining armor cover half the table...
The only reason I hesitate so much is that it is SO EXPENSIVE. I really won't be able to afford to play it until I'm raking in 60K after graduation... ;D

Bloody high elves... They dont even have mass ranks they're so expencive. Their best troop is their standard making them crappy against GOOD armies like darkelves and chaos... ((Ironicly enough)) and you should have said 40k for the irony of the statment.

*Smacks own head.
Doh! A perfectly goo dpun gone... slipped out of my grasp... (although I hope I do more than 40k in the prgramming biz ;D)
And I might consider Woodl Elves or Undead too. Or am I just accidentally picking out the crap races?

Wood elves are crap outright... They are treehugging pansies who if are fighting a cavalry or monstrous army are buggered... Undead are good but they are expencive as all hell...
Dark elves are not as good individualy as high elves but are more numourous.
High elves are more for their troops but cost alot of points.
Empire all in all rely on the player buying a steam tank and watching it roll over another army is just funny as heck
Bretonians are the main cavalry army and really whoop ass on a clear feild.
Scaven Kill themselves frequently and otherwise rely souly on numbers.
Dwarves are the artilery and melee guys. They have big cannons and big axes.
Lizardmen are kinda all around more for their magic.
Chaos... They are the guys who really cheese off other armies because of their raw power.

Undead - A whole lot of skeletons or zombies, you will out number most armys. they got some cool things like the cause fear, and they dont fallback. and with the necromages, you can make more skeletons and zombies, so you can have your army move forward, and have your mages make more skeltons, then send them it. trust me if you get good rolls, the oponet will scream.

Warhammer Fantasy is still pretty cool IMO.
I play (as often as I get the Chance): ORCS & GOBS LIZARDMEN BRETTONIANS and sometimes DARK ELVES sometimes DOGS OF WAR.
In my estimation the rules are a bit better then 40K (just beacuse they don't keep changing things every time a new army book comes out), but the game can get mired down in movement (because it's not quite as free flow as 40K. My choise is Warhammer Fantasy with the Skirmish rules! Now, THAT is one good game.

I'm currently planning a Bretonian army just waiting for the army book.
The question is will I or won't I be able to stop myself humming Dambusters or 633 Squadron while charging those pegasus knight units. Though obviously their leader will be called Sir Guy Gibson and his loyal mount will be called Lancaster.

Been playing fantasy on and off since 3rd edition and I have me a huge Skaven army. Lately time only allows for sporadic gaming (tabletop) and that has been used up by 40K. Soon though, the Children of the Horned Rat shall make an appearance.
