Anyone else ever played/heard of this classic? It is a very popular, if underground, hit in my area, won a few game of the year awards too. I just managed to get a copy for my very own at the renaissance festival this weekend .Is this one as popular everywhere as it is here? It was originally german, too, so it isn't US only for sure The premise of the game is that you are one of a group of settlers that are trying to settle and build up a newly discovered island. The board's recources are randomized every game, so it never repeats itself. The big claim to fame is that the game is won and lost in teh trading tables- there are no restrictions at all in trading rescources, so player alliances tend to pop up like crazy, and come down even faster.

Just an excellent, excellent game all around. Those germans really know how to make a board game!!! I have played this game no less then 50 times and have always enjoyed the experience. Great mechanics, and good times.
They have just released a "TRAVELLERS Settlers of Catan. The game is too cool. That is if you like minature version of everything that can be played in the car. It may sound strange, but they actually pulled it off. that's right, a miniature version of the base game.

At a recent con, I saw just the opposite- a GIANT version. The tiles were a foot across, the buildings were from a train set, and the terrain features were incredibly well constructed, and not just painted on. The cards were normal size though

I love this game, but it's far too addictive! I first heard of it at an LRP event. Since then I've been hooked. Has anyone played any of the expansions? I've played the 'cities and knights' expansion but none of the others.

I have seen the giant version at the past few ORIGINS conventions. It is definatly a sight to behold.
On a side note, I suggest checking out the CITIES & KNIGHTS Expansion. This exp really adds a lot of flavor and depth to the game. Worth it IMO. However, it dies add a new level to the game and takes a bit of the "simplicity" out of the game.
