Heh, I can't help but think of an old drawing I once saw. It showed a woman, who, by use of jack etc, changed the falt tire of the car. It was in the middle of teh high way in the pouring rain, yet she wasn't wet, because her man was holding an umbrella for her while she changed the tire. I think the drawing is brilliant. I don't mind doing what's usually considered a man's duties now and then, and I definitely don't mind being treated with courtesy. Someone holding a door for me? I say thank you and smile at them, in return I hold the door for others regardless of gender. I think chivalry is very much alive - the only reason it doesn't fit exactly to the description belonging to the Middle-Ages is that just like everything else in society it has developed with time. To pick up on the matter about looks: I am pretty - some ppl even call me gorgeous, though I myself wouldn't take it quite that far lol. It is no more than 3 months ago I had to tell a guy in VERY harsh terms that I never wanted to see him again. The reason? He disrespected my principles BADLY. There's more to the story of course but that part does not belong in this thread. It's no more than a week ago a guy took me out for a movie. We had a great time, and we're nothing but friends. We both know that we're never gonna be anything but friends (we talked it over) Of course he paid for it all seeing as it was him who invited me. Had I invited him I'd have paid, just like I've done before. Sticks and stones. Those who do not appreciate chivalry are those who would never dream of showing it themselves. That way the world's population is evenly matched. Those who don't use chivalry and don't appreciate it will mostly not end up with someone who do, thus chivalry actually serves as something to determine whether two ppl's personalities are right for each other. Lastly: If you hadn't guessed by now, I'm all for chivalry

A teacher wrote on a reccomendation (?) for that if I pass on my characteristic to the next generation, chivalry will never die. I hold one of the last strains of the virus and it is mine!

No Bluster and SH! T talk is a tool for those that dont have the manners and tact to act like a real man and RESPECT a woman.........
A REAL man, respects a woman, and by respecting her, he is a better man for it. A man who talks trash and hides his insecurities by talking the talk rarely walks the walk...........
Ya' Know what I mean.....

I know I'm joining the conversation rather late in the game, but I noticed that the subject of holding doors for ladies is a rather recurent theam. I would like to go on record that I would hold the door for anyone, male or female, if I happen to be at the door just befor they are.

I belive it still does exist, Apreciatted maybe not all the time...
But i do belive that it is not a tool but just good manners. And yes I will hold a door open for the ladies it may not always get noticed or aprreciated but i will do it. And IMHO it is the truely outstanding gals that tend to appreciate it the most, and no its not making up for other qualities that are lacking if anything its using qualities that are in vast numbers....

Well, I'm definetly throwing my two cents in a little late here BUT I still will of course.
If you ask me chivalry is still much appreciated, so is kindness and compassion in general. In fact, at least wth how life has been for me and many of my friends recently, it's appreciated MORE than it perhaps would have been before. People like others to be kind to them, and I've gotten further in life with a kind word or compliment or even holding the door open (which I do anytime I see someone coming and I'm the first to the door) then I ever could with an iron fist.
