It is? As I was aware drink driving is one of the big causes of road accidents in Britain. Sorry for not clarifying - I meant mainland Europe.

SSD, you are, as usual, correct. These laws are directly targetting a single group of people and, as such, are completely wrong. I know I stood on the other side of the fence earlier, but, hey, I was thinking along another track. These laws aren't even particularly targetting Jews. They are specifically targetting Muslims. I hope they don't pass this.

An analogy just came to me:
Forcing a Muslim girl to remove her head scarf is a lot like one of those Old Testament stories about the king of Babylon or wherever trying to force the children of Israel to bow to a golden idol.
It's a clear case of the government trying to force a religious view point on one particular group by requiring that one particular group to violate a central tenet of its beliefs or suffer the consequences.
I don't see how anybody could be in favor of such a law.
Of course, being a generally theistic sort of fellow, I'm in favor of allowing religious people to practice their quiet, nonharmful beliefs at any time any where.
