Sorry EK. We're having a tough time trying to find the time to make her character sheet up. I would suggest just running the game with who we've got: K'zan, myself, Canderous, and Stik's character (was there anyone else?). Still not a bad count. Anyone else can jump in along the way. What say you?

I'm still waiting on Stik's final character, but I could just run it with the three of you for now. I'll start the game up tomorrow.

I might be able to grab Exile from her Final Fantasy XI & World of Warcraft addiction if we're still getting more people.

If you can, I'd appreciate it. Her character's already in the middle of a scene - I just assumed she had lost interest in the game.

Is the scratchy sound a continuous sound, or was it a scratchy sound then followed by the clicks?

It was a long scratch, like someone quickly driving a knife edge over the rocks. The scratch stopped immediately and then the clicking began.

Sorry about my sudden dissappearance here. ^^;
During one of the down times, I got addicted to MMORPGs, and well... you get the idea.
But anyways, I'm back and posting!

Awesome. A few things you may want to recall, though: 1) Francis put a scroll in your pack detailing some task for you. He said that members of the Fraternity of Order would be watching you to make sure you did it. 2) Lexon said he'll wait for you back at the alley at nightfall.

How do you generally handle OOC questions and such? For instance, in collecting my Martin's gear, I gave some thought to seeing if he could snag anything else from the table. I thought better of it, but had I wanted to, should I have posted here or just put a note like: "OOC - What's on the table?"
Meanwhile, Martin has just left the restaurant, and there are a number of blackguards about who would gladly make him tragically and terminally uncomfortable, and he needs a safe haven for a bit. At this point, I do not even know very much about this city other than that it has a wide variety of races in it, and is somewhat cosmopolitan.
Ideal situation would be to find a room to rent short term and a place to play and then make a bunch of friends, not to rely on them but simply because it is harder to start trouble with a lot of witnesses about.
So, a few questions: What's type of city is this? Large, small? Rich, poor? Is it divided into districts or did it simply grow into its present form? Is there a map available?
Are there many homeless folk about? (Homeless folk are a great resource. You make nicey nice with a homeless dude, and give him some money or some booze, and you've got a friend for life. And because they are locals, they tend to know everyone around their neighborhood and will even stick up for you when things start to get ugly: "Leave him alone, Bob, he's cool")
Do people travel with armed guards, or is the place civil enough not to need them?

I thought better of it, but had I wanted to, should I have posted here or just put a note like: "OOC - What's on the table?" I'd prefer if you posted it here so as not to clutter up the IC threads. What's type of city is this? Large, small? Rich, poor? Is it divided into districts or did it simply grow into its present form? Is there a map available? Are there many homeless folk about? Do people travel with armed guards, or is the place civil enough not to need them? Martin has never been to Ribcage before, so all of his knowledge is based on what he's heard before. Ribcage is fairly large as far as gate-towns go (pop. 35,000). The city is divided into five territorial districts, each ruled over by a senatorial family, and the Citadel, which is the domain of Lord Baron Paracs. The Citadel looms imposingly into the sky and can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. Martin doesn't have a map of the city, though it shouldn't be hard to obtain one. Most citizens of Ribcage are tieflings, though there are a few evil humanoids and other species as well. They are mainly selfish and power-hungry, living in fear and hatred of their neighbors. The city's militia, the Blackguard, are everywhere and always looking for the slightest opportunity to punish lawbreakers. Though most standard coins are accepted here, the real currency is power. As such, the populace seems to be divided up into two classes: those with immense power, and those without any. Most citizens scrape by a decent lifestyle by having a powerful friend or senatorial ally. Bribes, "protection money", and flattery are all common survival tools. Homeless people exist, but they are quite rare, since the Blackguard usually pick them up for disturbing the peace. The crime rate in Ribcage is quite low amongst commoners, but quite high amongst those in power. Because of this, if you're going to hire bodyguards, you'd better make sure that you have the power or influence to be able to talk the Blackguard out of arresting you.

EK-- Re: Gymnasium of Steam:
Before I make my next move, I need some info.
The squad of Blackguard is six men, correct? How are they armed? Armored? Do these look like hardened professional soldiers, or merely conscripts?
What is their disposition in terms of location, facing, etc? How far away are they from the door? From Martin's position? How far is the restaurant door?
What other doors are in this hall/lobby/whatever it is? You said the floor is granite. Is it small granite tiles or flagstones, or is it one continuous surface (possible in a magical world, I suppose)? Is the surface smooth or rough hewn?
In true swashbuckler spirit, I must also ask whether there are any hanging chandelier ropes available. (I have no intention of using them, but it is a mandatory question.)
It's in my best interest to simply flee, but I am not liking the possibility of an innocent getting killed by troops who are here for me. Honor demands that I do something. I may be chaotic, but I'm not evil.

The squad of Blackguard is six men, correct? How are they armed? Armored? Do these look like hardened professional soldiers, or merely conscripts? There are six men. They're all wearing very heavy plate or splint mail with chain mail underneath. The armor is ashen black and is studded with short spikes. They're all heavily armed, all carrying at least two large weapons, with a diverse assortment between them. The Blackguard are reknowned for their draconian training methods, most being picked at a young age for their viciousness and trained ruthlessly until adulthood. This group appears to be very professional, and possibly combat experienced as well, based on how they're standing and their awareness. What is their disposition in terms of location, facing, etc? Two are leaning against the far side of the doorframe from Martin's position, looking away from Martin and towards the woman. The other four are either standing or pacing by the near side of the doorframe, two looking out into the lobby, and two looking outside the Gymnasium. How far away are they from the door? From Martin's position? How far is the restaurant door? They are all very close to the door. They're about 100-150 feet away from Martin. The restaurant is a good 2 or 3 minutes away from Martin, through some of the halls of the Gymnasium What other doors are in this hall/lobby/whatever it is? There are a series of maybe 20 doors lining the perimeter of the lobby at regular intervals. Each is well-marked as to its destination. You said the floor is granite. Is it small granite tiles or flagstones, or is it one continuous surface (possible in a magical world, I suppose)? Is the surface smooth or rough hewn? They're large tiles of smooth, polished granite. In true swashbuckler spirit, I must also ask whether there are any hanging chandelier ropes available. (I have no intention of using them, but it is a mandatory question.) There are no chandeliers in the room, nor any ropes. Sorry ^_^.

I need a bit more info on the Gymnasium of Steam.
As I understood it, there were six soldiers in the Blackguard squad. And unless they have gotten reinforcements, we have six men covering three exits, so at most there are two men to a door, unless one has more, in which case another must have only one man on it, no? If there is a door with one man guarding it, that is the way to go. If not, two may have to do.
How heated is the guardsman's discussion with the employee? There are certain tells in someone's speech which indicate that they are about to get violent. I may have to do something stupid when that happens, unless I can transform the situation into something chaotic, or just redirect his anger.
