Each black hash mark around the perimeter of the circle is an archway leading somewhere deeper into the Gym, though the three larger hash marks by the Blackguard are exits to the outside. As you can see, the Blackguard are clustered around one exit, but are also covering the other two visually (though you might be able to sneak by the right side). The discussion is getting heated, but is not ready to get violent. It appears that the Blackguard sergeant is just toying with the girl, but that he is starting to run out of patience. Based on his mannerisms, Martin doesn't think that it'll last more than a few more minutes.

And some people question the value of miniatures... Thank you, that clears it all up. I was picturing three entrances at different parts of the room, whereas it's actually a single entrance with three doors.

K'Zan: care to elaborate on your last post? Dustmen usually do a lot of sensory deprivation stuff, etc. to prepare themselves for Final Death. I just find it interesting that K'Zan would find the experience unsettling - I thought he might be jubilant at having this opportunity to further his training.

He's struggling with the dustman philosophy. So far (working in the Mortuary) it's all been purely academic for him, but now suddenly he's found himself in a situation that will actually directly affect him. He's having to come to terms with emotions (such as the githzerai racial hatreds) and fears that he hasn't even had to acknowledge before, in order to rid himself of them... sensory deprivation is fine as preparation, but it's not a patch on finding yourself trapped in a tight claustrophobic space with the threat of imminent death creeping up behind you. This is really the point of K'Zan leaving the Mortuary - in order to test his beliefs. His faith in True Death will either be broken, or renewed.

How does this place stay in business with such a dim and unhelpful staff? I would think in such a posh place, they would cater a bit more to their clientelle. Martin told this staffer that he is in the employ of Master Verrick, and then placed an order on his behalf, and was told that one of Master Verrick's servants can place an order in the restaurant. Then, after being told the drinks must be brought immediately, before the Blackguard loses his temper, the girl just stares and says: "This looks very bad." Well, if we have to do this the hard way, how close is the nearest location where Martin can order drinks and food for the Blackguards? and can he get there unseen? It is my intention to get as many of the wait-staff into the lobby as possible, with trays (and if I have my way, it'll look like a Viennese Hour at a wedding before it's done). Then, in the midst of the confusion, he'll make his way out the door in truest Marx Brothers fashion.

That makes sense. I was a bit confused as to your motives, and didn't really know what to make of it. I think a bit more information might help.
The Gymnasium is the highest class establishment this side of the ring. Most people who go in are part of the entourage of very important personage; way out of Verrick's league, and with servants a lot more powerful and better dressed than Martin. Saying that you are a servant of some no-name person doesn't get much of a response. Again, power rules this town.
The Gymnasium is primarily a bath house; food and entertainment are more of a side-business. If someone wants to dine at the Gymnasium, it'd more than likely be part of an overnight stay. The lobby is usually kept empty because the Gymnasium's primary source of income are from this type of high-profile guests that make reservations months in advance and stay for weeks at a time. Granted, there are walk-ins or short term customers, but they're almost considered unwelcome, and are ushered out as quickly as possible (Verrick could be considered to be in this category).
If you wanted to get a lot of people into the lobby, that would usually take some serious advance planning. You might try convincing someone that a really powerful person is arriving as a walk-in or something like that... Bear in mind that this is a very tense situation right now: the bigger the lie, the tougher it'll be to pull it off.
Also as a heads up, I am, in fact, randomizing the argument between the Blackguard and the employee. It could explode at any second, or it could die down at any second. You'll have plenty of time to act before either happens, but just thought you'd like to know that I'm not trying to pull Martin around by the leash or push him towards some scripted response. Innovation is good.

Thank you, EK. That last bit about this not being a railroad job is good news. Actually, I do not care whether Martin ever gets his meal. His order was just a set-up for a slightly rude joke. (If you missed it, read his dialogue again. If you still don't get it, ask yourself why he bothered ordering chicken soup in the first place...)

I just wanted to let you guys know that for the week of the 27 I'm headed to Paris for my birthday. While I'm sure my friend has internet access, I'm not 100% sure how available it is to me. I SHOULD be here, but if I vanish off the face of the earth that week, I wanted to make sure you knew why.

Alright, we'll try to get you at least another post in by then, Exile.
I'm also waiting on Canderous... if anyone knows where he is, could you remind him he hasn't posted in over 10 days? Thanks.

Is this alleyway a dead end, or is there another way out?

They alleyway is open on both sides. Additionally, some of the brick buildings making up the walls are shabby enough for you to be able to climb up to the rooftops.

EK Lest you think I dropped off the face of the Earth, I want to let you know that Martin intends to sit tight until A) the Spectrum soldiers arrive, or B) the food arrives or C) he finds someone else to help him cause a distraction.
That said, I know very little about this city outside of the Gymnasium, although I suspect Martin should know a bit more. Certainly a low-dive inn would be a prominent blip on his radar, someplace he can lay low for a bit, and also some more upscale places, with taverns or common rooms in which he can work. I'd like to know more about what Martin knows about Ribcage, so that I can give a more accurate direction when I do get the heck out of this lobby.
While we're in here, though, what are the other guests in the lobby doing. Can you describe a few of the ones within a short distance from Martin's position?

Gah. Sorry for ignoring you guys, but end of the semester's coming up and I'm going to be ultra-busy until around the middle of this coming week. I'll update everyone's threads after that. Again, sorry for the delay.

Everyone, I raised this idea a while ago, and wanted to see your opinion again. What do you guys think of moving to the new forum? Selenya (aka BRO) was the only person who objected last time, and since he's not playing anymore, I'd like to see the consensus now...
