Gotta rant. This is my typical luck.
So, I got all this spiffy new hardware - everything except CD burner, power supply and case. All the bells and whistles - wireless, firewire, you name it. I'm overly excited about that mobo layout sticker, and use it immediately - to a very stupid, but well visible place in the case.
Day 1: Mobo won't work, no matter what I connet (or disconnect). All I get is this stupid "Standby" led. And it's green. My voltage meter's batteries quit on me.
Day 2: Call the supplier, they say: send it back. We'll replace it. Send in a description about what doesn't work. I write:" Dear Compusirs, the green led works. Dunno 'bout nothin else. Hope this finds You in good health.
I arrive at the post office too late, and can't send it.
Days 3-4: weekend. Can't send the pretty, but useless mobo back.
Day 5: Mobo takes a trip. The wait begins. By this time my old trusty AMD's back in working order. The friend I sold it to complains a little (he hadn't paid for it, so I told him to bugger off).
Days 6-18: I wait, frustrated.
Day 19: I get a call from the compu-guys. They tell me there's nothing wrong with the mobo, and the trip will cost me € 30 (USD 36).
Day 20: Mail guys at my door, 8.30 am. I freak out. They tell me it's €30. Can't find my wallet. They go away. 2 mins later I find my wallet, am awake and Really Madtm. I throw some clothes on, run to the post office and back in a record time. I didn't take my home keys with me. Classic. I'm freezing. The building super comes an hour later. Hardware works, Windows doesn't, until the 4th go. Everything is fine again.
Day 21: no problemo. I get worried.
Day 22: I unplug the chassis fans (they loud. me dislike loud.) and sell them. Say goodbye to my old comp.
Day 23: Order new chassis fans. happy to get more new cadgets (life is so good). no problems. Overclock a bit, get bored and reset to factory defaults. no problem. Nagging bad feeling in the back of my head.
Day 24: No new fans in mail. Find out it was PSU making the weird noise all along. dismiss it as cooling problem.
Day 25: No cooling problem. Everything fine heatwise. nothing's running at over 100F except the power. DVD/CD-RW combo not working due void warranty (as of 2 mo), as excpected. Order another DVD. Happy to get new cadgets.
Day 26: PSU making noise like a 20 yrs old fridge. That can't be good. Try to patch this with an old power. Not a good idea, as it is just as LOUD. Lose hearing from right ear. Problem fixed.
Days 27-29: Waiting. Neighbors think I'm renovating due the excessive noise. I yell "What!?" a couple times and they back off.
Day 30: DVD-drive and fans arrive. PSU sounds like a Stuka divebomber, and Asusprobe doesn't like it a bit. Switch powers. No alarming noises, just an occasional rattle.
Day 31: fine.
Day 32: A great MOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNN (PSU at it again) at 7 am. I take PC offline, power out, dismantled. Reassembled. Everything works again. A ghost of a SCSI DVD drive appears at list of drives. Removing ir causes everything in IDE-1 die. Reinstalling windows, just in case.
Day 33: Ordered another power supply. Old one gives me the silent treatment (as in not making noise), working as per Doctor's Orderstm.
Today, about a week later: New power. Old one still working perfectly. Friend still owes me money. I think I heard a faint rattle (case sides. I bet my life on it).
This is the clean version. Foul language available on PM request.
