Searching for a story has lead this 22 year old reporter to Tokyo; he's been assigned by a company there to report on the local news for the geology of Japan, it's not much but it's a start. He'll be working under Geophysicist Akiko Shima, she has no knowledge in producing a newsletter for academics and Universities in Japan.
It was lucky that she was able to find someone, as she hasn't go much funding yet, and the company which she is involved with isn't exactly big......

Nicholas has arrived at is appartment in a high rise flat and is currently unpacking his belongings, in the small cramped space, it was all Akiko could afford to help him start anew here....speaking of which she should be arriving soon to welcome him.
[OOC- You can post anything you want now about your rooms, describe them and your actions and then Akiko will arrive.]

Nicholas deposited his bag on the floor, unzipped and checkout out his stuff. First he removed his notebook computer and set it up at the desk. Then came some assorted stationary and backup devices beside it, along with some off left over from the trip wich he left on the kitchen table. Finally, his pistol.
-What's up with you, Nick?- he though -You would never have caught yourself packing heat a few years ago. You're seriously getting paraniod here. But after dad... and then that whole umbrella theory that made you the laughing stock of your profession. You were so sure... -
He had never been one for talking to himself before either. Maybe it was just the stress that came with moving. Or the fact that he had lost everything. But then again, it was the best way to start a new beginning, right? With nothing?
Sighing, he put the gun in the desk drawer and checked out his new home. Sure it was minimalist, but the wooden floor panellings and japanese decorations reminded him of the dojo he went to back home. Hey, maybe he could find somewhere to train soon, take his mind off the past for a while.
Nicholas made his way over to the balcony. He was still young, he had the time to make a fresh start. Stepping out, he took in the bustling cityscape before him. Yeah, he could leave that mess behind him. He could accept that he was wrong about umbrella, that he was safe. He could even accept that dad did what he did for personal reasons, nothing to do with what was probably the irrational assumptions of a grief stricken son.
Dammit! Who was he kidding? He'd never stop thinking about it. Still brooding, he made his way to the kitchen, made some tea, went back to the sofa, snak back and waited...
This time he wouldn't screw things up.

A gentle knocking was heard at Nick's door as Akiko waited outside.
"Hello? Newbie, you in there?" She playfully said.

Upon hearing the knock, Nick roused himself out of his contemplative reverie. Damn, was that the time? He realised that he was still in his travelling clothes, an old long sleeved t-shirt and worndown jeans. Stil, he needed to make a good impression, so he dusted himself of and ran a hand back through his somewhat tangled black hair. It'd have to do. Can't keep the new boss waiting. Especially in Japan. They were sticklers for formality round here.
'I'm here,' he called out, opening the door to let her in, trying to look calm.

Akiko greeted him with a warm smile and handed over a bottle of domestic, cheap sparkling wine. "I'm sorry,...it's all I could afford."[N.B. A closer look at her avatar.]

Nick smiles back (taking her in as he did so. She seemed young and sweet-looking, but something told him that she had a slightly dangerous edge to her. Didn't we all?), accepting the wine, 'are you kidding? The way I've been living recently, this stuff is the divine ambrosia itself.'
He heads to the table to pour the wine, 'To tell you the truth, it feels strange living at someone else's expense. I'm actually looking forward to earning my keep.'
Hands Akiko a glass of wine, and invites her to sit down before he himself reclines on his sofa. 'So apart from the housewarming, is there anything I should know about? Anything on your mind?'

Akiko smiled and gulped the wine.
"Earning your keep,...well that's what you'll be doing here, I hope you don't mind working for me."
A look of realisation suddenly was upon her face.
"Ohh, actually I gotta tell you, tomorrow we head off to our new office,...*smiles*....my boss at the University managed to get us a small room but it has a dark room joined to it. No one else wanted the room and he remembered my predicament so.....tadahh, we have a place to work now!"
Gulping the wine again she sighed and looked apologetic to Nicholas.
"I'm sorry this is the only place I could get for you,....plus my appartment ain't much bigger than this actually."

She giggled slightly as though amuzed by herself.
"I hope you won't get too bored with all the geology you'll be writing and taking photos of,...my old helper got very bored, and quit." she quickly said "But don't get the wrong idea, I love my job...it's interesting to me! *smiles* You'll just be writing up what I note for you, so don't worry about that either, I'll be doing all the science work,...you just take photos when I ask and write up my drafts on a computer for the papers at the end of the month."
Taking another gulp of her wine she smiled and said:
"So, how'd you like Tokyo,....don't worry you won't always be cooped up here, we will be traveling quite far to get some of the pictures inot the country areas,...but that's for later."
She was trying to make him feel more at home, she thought it wouldn't be easy to just pack up and leave to start a new life here.

Ncik looked thoughtful, sipping his wine before replying, 'Actually, I've always wanted to see Asia. I don't know much about geology myself but I am eager to see some of the country round here. I've heard that Japan is a land with much natural beauty. The work sounds good, and I think I could get used to this.'
Although starting fresh here was actually harder on him that he showed, he was telling the truth. He was going to make the best of the situation and was determined to do this well. As employers went, he had seen worse. At least it seemed like he already had a friend here.

Akiko seemed to be rather open about her situation being a near pennyless reseacher, but hoped that with Nick's help she can get this paper of hers up and running.

"Well, I have a trip planned but....perhaps we should go shopping tomorrow for some home essentials don't ya think? Then the day ater we'll get to work,....hows that sound?"
She smiled at him as she finished off the rest of her wine.

Nicholas considered that there were some qualities in employment that were both rare and more valuable than material perks, and that a friendly employer was certainly one of them. 'You're the boss,' he said smiling, and showing his approval by raising his glass and draining the dregs, 'Plus I'm dying to see the city. It's a date.'

"Great!" She smiled and seemed happy that he was enjoying himself here.
~Atleast I hope he's enjoying it here.~
"There's some great bargain shops, which are really good,...afterwards lunch can be my treat alright!" She asked Nick.
