A few random thoughts:
First: What do you guys want to do on your maiden voyage this year? Stay around Mithril and hunt pirates? Travel further south in search of fat merchant ships? Explore? Gimme some clues here.
Second: A comment I noticed from the last session about if Mithril was a real city it would be overrun. I'm not sure where you get that idea. Mithril is a city of about 20 000 people (I'm actually not sure of the population, that's my estimate). Of that population, there are about 1000 paladins running around the city. Makes having evil people in the city rather difficult. For some bizarre reason, you assumed Memnor was evil, despite several comments to the contrary - from people who knew him like the List Mistress. That's why the session lasted so long.
One other thing that protects the city is the fact that there's a 60 foot golem made of solid mithril which may or may not animate to defend the city in case of threat. That and the fact that the golem gave it's finger not so long ago so that nearly every paladin in the city is armed with a holy sword. At least any paladin of over 5th level. Does make the city pretty strong.
Third: This is from a while ago. The idea of gun powder. I really don't want to get into gun powder with this campaign right now. However, just as a few points. The tech level of the ships is late 15th century at best. That means that gun powder weapons are pretty much limited to cannons anyway. And, with your ship, the difference between the cannons you could carry and catapults is minimal. Similar damage, same range. The major difference is that cannon ammo is much lighter than catapult. Not a huge deal. But, 15th century people were not carrying muskets or even an arquebus (which isn't seen until the 16th and 17th centuries).
In Scarn, the history goes something like this. The water between Scarn and Termana was relatively small and shallow before the Godswar. Rowed ships and longboats were all that was necessary to maintain trade. Then, with the chaining of Kadum and the subsequent destruction of the land, caused the seas to flood huge areas between the two continents. Most of the Blood Sea was above sea level 150 years ago. Today, it is a fairly shallow sea, but it is now about 2500 miles from Scarn to Termana. This necessitated the development of better sailing ships to maintain trade. That and the growth of sea monsters, created by Kadum's blood in the water meant that ships needed to be faster and stronger in order to survive. Coastal ships still tend to rely on oars and sails, but, to cross the Blood Sea requires a fairly significant ship.
However, gun powder has never been developed here. Therefore, no guns.
Just as a historical point, the development of ships had nothing to do with the development of cannons or gun powder. Cannons were developed because of castles.

I favor hunting pirates or using our letter of marque. I also favor exploring, possibly in the direction where we might locate the missing friend of the official who runs the customs house.
But I am up for any adventures really.

Ok, guys, I have a bit of a confession to make. Between the new baby (who is just way too cute heh) and my purchase of Halo Combat Evolved, I find myself with very little spare time. That and the fact that my computer room is now shared by the baby which means that I can't work in there at night. All this has combined to mean that my DnD work is suffering.
You guys are now at a level and a place in the campaign where you can do pretty much whatever you want. I don't have to lead you by the nose at all and all of the previous story arcs have been closed. You went to the island, you removed the alien infestation from yourselves, you regained your priestliness, whatever. The good part of this is the campaign is now wide open. The bad part is that the campaign is now wide open. Without your input as to what you want to do, I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to prepare for session.
So, here's my proposal for tomorrow (my time anyway). You guys are going to take a two week shakedown cruise with the Tallywhacker to make sure that the ship is seaworthy and your crew is up to snuff. That way, you can do a bit of exploring, maybe meet something nasty here and there, and we can sort of get a feeling for how well you like life at sea.
I'd ask you if you agree, but that would imply I was giving you a choice. Hee hee. I'm being the nasty bastard railroading DM this week. Just so that I can keep my own sanity for a while and buy myself a little time. Hope you guys like it.
On another note, what is your standard? Your colors? Your flag I mean. What does it look like. Obviously you would fly the Mithril flag, but what does your personal standard look like? Just a thought.

Hey Aaron. If you read this, is FRP still interested in playing? And, are you still interested in running things on Sundays? Drop me a line please.
It looks like we'll be a little short handed for a couple of weeks. Cos and Palai are both AWOL. No worries, but, what should we do with their characters? Should they be NPC'd or simply wait on the ship doing shippy jobs?

Staying around doing shippy jobs isn't really in Palai's character, though I suppose he might get ill and be relegated to such a role. I'd not mind him being NPCed, just have him be rather low-key and quiet so he doesn't do anything very out of character or that might get him killed.

Azz's (Evelyn) home computer completely died. It will be a month or so before he can get a new computer. Until then, he cannot be online for the games or other activities. He may be able to use a library computer from time to time to post or send emails, but he will not be able to play.

O crap. That sucks Kelly. Tell him to hurry up and buy a new one. Jeez, he's letting down the team. Heh. Hmm, choice between eating and playing DnD? Well, now we know who's dedicated and who's not. Heh.
Well, with Palai down for a couple of weeks, Azz gone for a while and Cosmic having RL issues with work, do you think it's time to recruit some more players? Shouldn't be too difficult. I'll just lurk on Open for a while same as before. Whatcha think? Open things up for three more players? When everyone comes back, that would give us 8 players, prolly no more than 6 show up at any given session. (that seems to be the way it goes). I think that should work nicely.
So, Palai/Sleepingdragon - if your buddy is still interested, tell him to drop me a line. He'll need a 6th level character that would have a reason for being on a ship. We can simply promote him from the crew. Any class except for maybe paladin I could see.
Also, Aaron/Turj, is FRP still interested?
We'll talk on Wed/Thurs about this.

Ok, my real life problems include not having a job and the burden of getting another, and since we play at 9:00pm my time, most places arn't open, so unless I get a job by next week, I'll have a half-way decent schedual for a while.
