I have a bit of time, so I thought I'd describe the new xp system in a little more detail. As I said, I go through transcripts and calculate the number of posts a given player makes. I then take a look and a few dozen sort of random comments to get a feel for how immersive the comments are. No, I don't go through every comment with a fine tooth comb, but I do look at the majority of them.
Then, I arbitrarily assign a rating out of ten for the posts and multiply the two to get the role play xp for that week.
To give you an idea of how I would rate things, I'm going to use a mage being asked about casting a fireball. (No, Cos and Turj, this is not directed at you, it just came to mind.)
1 point: Player says: "Fireball=400 ft+40ft/lvl" Basically taken straight from the books and not even bothering to make any sort of in game comment.
3 points: "My fireball can go 600 feet." Still pretty meta game, but at least participating.
6 points: "I can reach out to about 200 paces." Ok, now we're cooking. A realistic response that actually sounds like something a mage might say. Still pretty dry, but, more or less immersive.
9 points: "My Findral's Burst can reach out as far as a man could run in thirty heartbeats." Now, I'm reaching a bit here. Maybe a little cheesy, but, at least it's in keeping with the character, no meta game elements in the message and it sounds cool.
Also, remember, I'm looking overall. I am most certainly not rating each and every comment. I'm looking at a general trend throughout the session. Really, I'd like to see quality over quantity. We have lots of players now and I'd really you to bring them to life.
