Hi C$,
Bud, that is only the case if you let it be. I've heard that non-sense and seen it my whole life in others relationships, but if you treat your mate as an equal and truly as an equal, then THAT particular door swings both ways.

I do not agree with this term equal. Men and women are not equal and never will be. From the body type to the way we think we are different.
Should we be treated the same, yes. but that's not what happens does it. Men will give their seat on a bus to a woman, that is his choice, but let's say a man has just got done working a 10 day of hard work. Is he looked down upon because he didn't give his seat to a woman who was just shopping?
Yes I seen this happen.

Hi Sightspitter, Horse hockey! Men in this society can do any bloody thing we choose, if we have the courage to actually do it. The real difference that I've seen is that men are more likely, in this society, to hide behind that manure to try to feel better about themselves. Now man, I'm not dissing you... let's get that at the outset, but rather I'm answering to what I personally feel is an antiquated and specious idea that is still being propogated in an attempt to keep women subserviant. Could I be wrong? Nahh, that never happens. Like most subjects of this nature I think that right or wrong is in the eye of the beholder. My observations have certainly been clouded by my own preconceptions, just as C$'s, if they really do represent what he thinks and not a weird, but not wholly unattractive sense of irony, have been. Just like yours and Merkuri's and Loki's have been. Which of us is right? None of us. All of us. None of us. All of us. None of us. All of us. You get the idea. Draxy

The real difference that I've seen is that men are more likely, in this society, to hide behind that manure to try to feel better about themselves. Nobody's stoping the women, either. It's not a question of anybody being physically or legally restrained from doing things, it's whether society will "allow" it. And by "allow," I mean let it pass without criticizing or ridiculing it. Women wears pants: nothing bad happens. Man wears dress: he's ostracized, made fun of, and in general his life is made a living hell. This has nothing to do with whether the man or the woman gets frightened easier, but which one has more to be frightened of.

Hi Merkuri, That is just one instance Merkuri. How many women truckers do you see? I've done it, and many another thing, and it is something that some women do also do (but then again, some men wear dresses) that CAN BE done well by either sex. It pays outrageously for the work involved but women are, ARE, still be hedged from doing it because of culture lag. Is anybody holding a gun on them to stop it. Not anymore, although it was once that way. They still do suffer a certain species of ostracization though, albeit that has faded enormously in the last two decades especially. The "Bull Dyke" comments were still continuos even twenty years ago about any women trucker. Teamstering is men's work. It's damned unlikely that anyone will physicly prevent a man from wearing a dress like article of clothing, especially, if like women's pants, it is fashioned for him. He will draw stares. He will draw offensive comments (like the inverse of Bull Dyke, perhaps) but, he will not likely draw anything more serious than that. COULD it happen that he is physicly attacked for it? Hell yes. That TOO happened to women truckers in the early days of their entry into that field. People are often beastial. BUT, it didn't stop the woman trucker and it doesn't need to stop the man in a skirt. A last point there too, the clothing traditionally worn by women were designed in such a fashion to continuosly enforce upon the mind the differences in the sexes, the better to control women. The pants women are now wearing are, maybe, less comfortable, but FAR more utilitarian. The man in a short skirt, or kilt, is going to soon discover that too. Draxy

Alright, I'll give you women truckers. But I still think that women are flowing faster into the traditionally "male" jobs than the men are going into the "female" ones and the women are more accepted. You still hear jokes about male nurses (and they're usually called "male nurses" rather than just "nurses), but not so much about female doctors. And how many more administrative assistants/secretaries have you seen that are men compared to how many more women you see that are managers?
