see, as a Metallica fan from waaaaaaaaaay back, I thought that Jason Newstead was a terrible addition to the band, and the music never felt quite "right" to me, to be honest.
Evanescence managed to take home 2 grammies, by the way, Best New Artist, and Best Hard Rock Song, IIRC. They've replaced Ben Moody, who has now moved on to collaborating with Avcril Levigne (groan). Be interesting to see what happens next...

actually, I would have to disagree. chemistry is very important in a band, and sometimes it just canot be replaced.
can you imagine the Beatles w/o John Lennon? GnR has sucked with the new lineup, Judas Priest was terrible w/o Rob Halford, and don't even get me started on that ingrate Jason Newstead; why Metallica replaced Cliff Burton with that hack was beyond me. It usually seems that when a founding member with a vision leaves, so does the vision, and the quality.
so yeah, Amy may find a few studio musicians to help her put together a new album; chances are that it won't be anywhere near the same quality as "Fallen", and it probably won't have the Evanescence vibe...

Well, it's been confirmed as of this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly. The newest hard rock sensation Evanescence has lived up to their name.
Ben Moody, the music behind Evanescence, mysteriously disappeared during their European tour earlier this year, and singer Amy Lee has been searching for new musical talent to back her up in concert. Additionally, thanks to a contorversial interview published in EW in April, where Ben stated that "we are not a Christian rock band", their album has fallen off the Christian charts and sales from Christian music stores have plummeted. On the plus side, the album has sold almost 3 million copies as of this week.
Evanescence was recently nominated for 5 Grammies: Album of the Year ("Fallen"), Best New Artist, Best Hard Rock Performance ("Bring Me to Life", the hit popularized thanks to the major motion picture "Daredevil"), Best Rock Album ("Fallen"), and Best Rock Song ("Bring Me to Life").
The moral of the story? Perhaps a better name would have been more appropriate:
evanescence
\Ev`a*nes"cence\, n. The act or state of vanishing away; disappearance; as, the evanescence of vapor, of a dream, of earthly plants or hopes. --Rambler.
Source: Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, © 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc.
evanescence
n : the property of lasting for a very short time [syn: ephemerality, ephemeralness, fleetingness]
The really sad thing... watch them win Best New Artist, the death of a musical career!

Ok, here goes:
SSD's reasons why he dislikes rap:
1. Absolutely no singing/vocal ability required.
2. No musical talent needed.
3. Most of the songs are falling into the oh so charming realm of "gangsta rap". I really have issues with music about shooting police, abusing women, and getting rich any way you can. This particular genre of rap glorifies criminality. It may not be representative of the whole of rap, but it's too popular to not mention.
4. No melody, harmony, musical or lyrical structure. At least some of the old school rap around in the 80's made an attempt at being music. Of some sort. Most of today's rap is too freeform for my taste.
5. Even the personalities behind the music are unlikable. 50 Cent? Eminem? And the increasing number of rappers who make the front page and end up in jail for drugs/guns/homicide. Nice. It's not up to the rappers to raise someone's kid, and I have issues with the whole "you're rich and famous so you should be a role model" belief, but this is getting ridiculous.
6. Rap Wars. Do y'all really NEED to dis each other in your music? Is it really necessary, or do you enjoy being sued? Or made fools of on international television. If you're gonna make a fool out of yourself, at least have the common courtesy to be drunk/stoned/suffering from "exhaustion" as an excuse. Try to deflect the personal responsibilty, people, lol. Seriously, no other genre of music has the hostility towards the rest of its own industry as rap does.
Do I need to go on or have I made my point, Anastas?

Nope. It's an original. Written by P!nk and Tim Armstrong (of Rancid, correct?). The only cover P!nk has ever released was "Lady Marmalade", although I'm sure she performs covers in concert. But all of her material is original. And for the record, the vid is hysterical (got a free DVD containing the vid with her new CD).

P!nk's new CD, "Try This" and Sarah McLachlan's new CD "Afterglow". Suits my manic-depressive mood swings just fine, thanks

worst....
Marvel Mangaverse. Horrid. Do I have to say more?
best...
hmmm...well, Marvel Graphic Novel #5, starring the X-Men: "God Loves, Man Kills". Always was, still is, and will always be, one of the most well-written graphic novels out there.

Marvel Girl...definitely hideous. I would honestly say just about any costume from any X-Man in the 80's. Storm's bikini, Polaris' barely-there tops, and that UGLY yellow and blue thing Cyclops insisted on wearing! Oh, and let's not forget Havok... basic black ruined by that idiotoc thing he wore on his head! (how funny... the Summers brothers and bad taste in clothes... huh) UGH!
for the 90's... the costumes of the New Mutants by the end of the run. Magik, Mirage, Wolfsbane, Cannonball and Sunspot... looks like they raided the leftovers of costumes past! Why wasn't Queer Eye out then? Maybe Marvel could have saved these poor kids!
for the new era of Marvel and the X-Men: uhm... the White Queen and her Amazing Gravity Defying Top! I mean, a stitch here, a stitch there, a thong, and *poof* instant slut costume. Not that the guys have it any better. Northstar FINALLY got some common sense and got rid of that old Alpha Flight costume, Nightcrawler finally got rid of his red, black, and white thing, and Cain Marko still has a bucket on his head!
For some really cool characters with some really bad fashion sense, MAKE MINE MARVEL!

hmmm....
I think Akira is overhyped. Don't hate it per se, but I don't believe it to be the brilliant piece of art others claim it to be.
I also abhor DBZ. Never liked it, even in Japanese.
I have to agree with Balmung, though. The most glaring example of the Americanization of decent anime making the series senseless would be Sailor Moon.
In Japanese, it is known as Bishojo Senshi Sera Muun. In America, we got Sailor Moon. The JApanese version is gory at times, very tongue in cheek, and not afraid to deal with issues such as all forms of sexuality, killing versus pacifism, etc. The hard decisions that the saviour of the universe needs to make regularly.
If you watch the Japanese version, Sailor Moon is a funny, naive, occassionally brilliant young woman who is capable of making the difficult decisions. There are times when she is completely tortured. There are times when she is completely silly. She is a fully developed character.
Now for the American version. "Girl Power", platitudes, and plain silliness. And Gods forbid we see the struggles, violence, and sexuality; oh no, it has to be watered down for the fragile American viewing audience.
The same goes for Gatchaman (In the states, G-Force or Battle of the Planets). The Japanese version is gritty, nasty, and at times downright mean. We get Casey Kasem doing lousy voice overs that never existed in the original series.
Maybe anime wouldn't suck so much if the folks at DIC, the Cartoon Network and the other importers of the stuff got off their butts and treated us like adults instead of small children in need of constant protection!

prolly a cultural thing. ppl want to associate a traditional Japanese word with what is a huge Japanese import into the states, most not knowing that the word has a much broader connotation in Japan.
