<-- To K'Zan, Selenya, and Spec the Damned only -->
As you step into the portal, you are sucked through the opening instantly, appearing without flash or fanfare at the other side. You're in a small, circular room built of dirt - obviously underground. A large, glass globe, five feet in diameter, lies in the center of the room, supported by a wrought iron pedastal, bolted into the ground. The walls are covered with a series of glyphs and sigils, effectively dividing the room into 8 sections. A small, youthful man, dressed in simple red clothes, sits on a wrought iron chair beside the globe.
Welcome, thralls. I am Lucius Ferrick.

Spec stands with his cloak wrapped around him once more. He lowers his head to Ferrick for a few seconds before looking up again. "I am Spec.May I ask where you have brought us?" Spec observes Ferrick closely to see what he can about him (race, etc. and to check for anything odd).

K'Zan casually examines the glyphs, the globe and finally Ferrick himself. He does not speak, or move from where he is standing.
For the moment, at least, he ignores Ferrick's use of the word 'thralls', though suspicions of illithid taint are not far from his mind.

Spec notices that Ferrick is completely hairless, lacking even eyebrows, and without any stubble indicating that it was shaved off. He appears to be human, but with some elven features, such as an elongated face and high cheekbones.
K'Zan looks over the glyphs carefully, but is unable to identify any of them. Some resemble the illithid tongue, but K'Zan is unable to determine for sure.
You are in my sanctuary. Our exact location is unimportant. says Ferrick, crossing his arms.
A small mote of light appears in the center of the sphere, expanding outwards and multiplying until it fills the sphere.
Come here. We will discuss the terms of your servitude. he continues, pointing to the ground near his chair.

Time passes quickly, and Canderous gets a good feel for the Salt Mephit Tavern. It is very cosmopolitan, catering to a large variety of beings of all social classes, races, and walks of life. There seem to be very few regulars, but those few dozen or so who do frequent the tavern seem to be very shrewd, amiable folk who earn a good living. Soon, after seeing several other modrons walk in and out, Kaygor walks into the tavern, identifiable from the insignia emblazoned onto his frame. He walks directly towards the back room and motions for Canderous to follow

Spec cautiously makes his way before Ferrick, continuously studying him as he gets a closer and closer look. He observes the crystal ball, and quickly peers over the runes, and back to Ferrick, watching him.

Canderous sighs from having to get up right after he had just gottten comfortable. Picking up his helmet, and looking into for a second, he then follows Kaygor.

Selenya liked all this buisiness less and less, but it seemed that there were no way back now, when they were in the mage’s inner sanctum, apparently filled with many spells upon which the mage could call at any moment.
Selenya followed K’Zan, keeping slightly behind him, but for now she paid almost all her attention to the glyphs that were all around them, hoping to recognize at least some of them...

Ferrick pans his head across the three of you and mutters disappointingly to himself. He addresses Spec first.
I know of your mission, and I've already informed your superiors of what you're doing. I've agreed to transport you down to the Outlands, but will exact a price from you. Here are the instructions for your assignment. Read it at your leisure.
He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a scroll, throwing it to Spec. He then turns to K'Zan and Selenya.
A githzerai and an elf? How quaint. I was never much for interracial couples, but you two make quite the pair. he chuckles to himself. He continues, with barely a pause This job is for you two, though you, Spec, may choose to take it as well. I need you to protect someone from harm. His name is Relik Noren, and he's currently on assignment in Ribcage. He shouldn't be hard to find, but make sure he is not assassinated - there are people who want him dead.
He smiles smugly for a second
Any questions?

Everything is in order, Canderous? asked the modron, pulling out a small metal figurine of a knight from his satchel Place your hand on this figurine while I activate the gae. We must leave immediately.

Though I hate to do it, time to prepare is exactly what we don't have. There will be supplies on the Outlands - I'm sure you can get what you need there. mutters Ferrick, waving his hands intricately. The sphere at the center of the room begins to glow brightly, almost to the point where you cannot look at it.
Place your hand on the sphere and I will activate the gate. Be quick!
